1987 Mercedes 300SDL #20 head; Memphis, TN

EDIT: May 7, 2013 --- New, current pics.

I’ve decided to put my 1987 Champagne colored 300SDL with Cream interior up for sale. The car has 157K miles on it; however engine has much less. In addition, the transmission was rebuilt at the same time the engine was replaced. Read on for the details or check my thread in the Diesel Discussion. Price $4900.

I bought this car in January, 2012, in Birmingham, AL. The car has always been in the South. I have the original window sticker and lots of maintenance records. The car is the smoothest running OM603 engine I have ever encountered. I used GPS to verify the odometer and speedometer during the test drive. The mileage was suspect low based upon exterior condition. The car has the proper receipt history to support the low mileage. In addition, the interior is in good condition. I will add pics of the interior to this post.

Here’s the good stuff about the car:
Engine was replaced with factory crate engine in 2002 --- I have to check the receipt for the correct mileage.
Transmission was rebuilt at the same time when engine was replaced.
Receipt of the work performed in hand.
AC is cold.
All windows and sunroof works.
Michelin tires have about 12K miles on them; lots of tire left.
Lots of receipts of previous work from the first owner.

Here’s the work performed since purchase:
Alternator voltage regulator replaced.
Brake fluid flush.
Oil and filter regularly changed using Rotella HD diesel formula -- no oil flames, okay?
Air filter changed.
Both fuel filters changed.
Power steering fluid flushed and new filter installed.
New windshield.
Replaced the inside mirror.
Replaced the ACC --- Klima unit purchased via Pelican Parts.
Replaced the front and rear shocks with Blistein comforts.
Replaced the high temperature AC sensor on the dryer.
Replace headlights with European style lights.
Odometer broke and repaired.
Cluster gauge needles repainted.
Serpentine belt replaced.
Removed the trailer hitch.
Replaced the rear deck brake light.

Here’s the not so good stuff about the car:
Vacuum pump, fan clutch, belt tensioner work should be replaced as preventive maintenance; I have the parts.
Sunroof is taped closed because the rear seal is off --- sunroof is weather tight with tape. Sunroof would normally be addressed when exterior paint is addressed.
Car has some “old man bumps” --- you know the ones that occur when an old man drives a big car; clipping the garage side when turning into the garage, etc.
Needs to be repainted.
Driver’s B pillar --- leather has come loose from the trim; could be glued back.
Very small cracks just beginning on dash at the inside corner of the speaker grill.
Center console needs help.
Driver’s seatbelt has broken plastic, so the buckle won’t stay adjusted.
Inside courtesy light does not come on when opening driver door --- relay issue.
Rust under the battery tray.
Patched up axle boot on passenger side.

Extra parts:
Bumper --- cannot remember if it’s a front or rear
Good battery tray
Brand new vacuum pump
Brand new fan clutch
Brand new belt tensioner rocker arm, spring, and hydraulic shock.
US style headlights with wiper blade

More Pics

Fuel tank is full. And look at that oil pressure! Does anyone notice the orange needles on the gauges? Forgot to mention that I have a brand new radiator coolent level sensor to replace the old one --- the car is not low on coolent.

Also, if you fly in to drive this car home, I will personally pick you up in the car and treat you to BBQ unless you prefer a different type of grub.

the issue

The AC is operational at speeds greater than 40mph. I suspect it's a vacuum pump or idler tensioner. Before I tear into it, I'm getting this car:
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-cars-sale/339723-fs-1981-w123-300d-light-ivory-palomino%3B-memphis-tn%3B-delivery-possible.html
driveable with COLD AC.

I will shoot you a PM.

just checking your memory

Does everyone remember the history on the factory crate engine replacement & rebuilt transmission? I have the receipt in hand and the car has a #20 head.
