280 slc euro with MANUAL transmission $3000

Bought this on ebay with the intention of restoring. Unfortunately seller was less than completely honest about the condition ... the car runs and drives very well ... about 150k miles ... but has rust in ALL the typical places. Small area below rear glass (removed glass to inspect). Rear quarters will need patch panels. Left front fender will need replacement. Right is good. Rockers appear to be solid. Front driver floor could just be patched in front-not really too bad. Front of housing around blower is rusted through. Euro bumpers - chrome appears to be in decent shape but both front and rear will need to be disassembled/restored. 3 pieces below rear bumper will need to be replaced. I've disassembled the interior, removed AC condensor, removed all glass, and begun scraping. This is a worthwhile project because of the rarity of the manual. Just not what I was looking for. Being apart, you can see exactly what is there. Pretty much a complete car however. I'll keep working on it until it sells. Located near Dayton. email: robinlarry(at)aol.com

Interesting addition: has full first aid kit ... still in wrapper and never opened. Also has german language owner's manual. Interior in decent condition with only a hole in the driver's side seat.

It would be a 107.022 with the M110.

Correct. Pretty rare combination for the SLC in the US. Most SLCs are V8s with automatics. The euro 6 cylinder is 185 hp.

Front left fender is off as well as LH door. Work continues...

Is this the white one that recently closed on ebay a few weeks ago?

I was considering going and taking a look at it. I thought the seller represented it with less rust than my blue 280slc. Mine had a cracked windsheild and busted taillight, making the white one seem like a better deal (and a lot closer to me), but I refrained from bidding anyway.

I am doing similar work on my 280slc 4-speed but I have halted work after stripping most of the interior due to other priorities like my 5.0 convertible SLC.

Having such a similar rare car, I would love to keep in touch. See "fonzi" on benzworld... Where I live. (A benzworld post pointed me here.)

Oh, I've got more than $5000 into my 280slc so far, and have yet to start welding. I think I've got most of the expensive stuff for the job, except the paint of course. I'm considering making mine all flat black below the side molding so I can just POR-15 the whole bottom of the car after the welding. I would like to drive the wheels off this thing when the rust repair is done. It is fun to drive!

280 slc

Yes, that's the one.
You're correct that the seller misrepresented the car. The car did run very well so he was honest there. I've disassembled it other than the engine and transmission so now I have a very clear picture of what there is to work with: RH rear quarter rusted on bottom edge and on top. LH rear quarter rusted on bottom. (both visible in the ad). LH front fender needs to be replaced. (slight accident damage). LH lower firewall rusted. Both rockers should be replaced. And the kicker-rust around the blower box and the windshield wiper motor areas.
So ... I'm going to part it out beginning with the engine and transmission. I put them on Ebay this morning. Once they're gone, I'll sell the rest. I should be able to get all of my investment back minus the hours I worked to disassemble. Fire sale prices if you want a stash of spares. I also have a brand new LH Mercedes door if you're interested. I'm located near Dayton, Ohio.

I just bought one, '80SLC, little to no rust even though it did not come as a new car (like my '84 280SL did). Mine does not have the manual tranny but everuthing else is there in great condition including the plaid fabric interior.
I am in need of the reat sets belts which never came with the car.
Thanks
