FS: 1982 240D - Saratoga Springs NY - $995
Hey Friends,
I have two W123s and decided it's time to stop paying insurance on two vehicles. Getting married and need some extra cash, so I'm selling my 240D. I have been somewhat obsessive about maintaining her, so most things are in real good shape. You can see my craigslist ad here: 1982 Mercedes Benz 240D ...and extra photos including interior here: 1982 Mercedes Benz 240D - a set on Flickr You'll note the ad asks $1,195 but to you wonderful people who help me so often, I'm asking $995. Specifics: This was a FL car most of its life. I bought it with 202K miles and now it has 293K. Very little rust: There is some surface rust on the metal ferring under the front bumper. There is a small patch behind the left rear wheel, not in the wheel well but behind that way under. This seems to be common, as I also have it on my 300D. Everything else is solid. I drive it nearly daily and it passes inspection and everything like that. I maintained it diligently. Changed the oil every 3,000 miles. Adjusted my valves every 12-15K. Never had green coolant in it or anything like that. No fluid leaks. Great oil pressure and temps run at 82. Timing chain was within tolerance last I checked but that was probably 30K miles ago. Good brakes, tires, all the stuff you'd expect. There is a caveat: This car does not leak oil but it uses too much when driven continually at high speeds. It doesn't seem to burn it in the classic sense: You don't get smoke coming out of the tail pipe UNTIL it hits 65mph. Many of you know how a 240D manual is winding out at 65... it seems to be about the internal pressure. I have followed the car with someone else driving, and at 65 it looks like there are intermittent little billows of generally black smoke but maybe a hint of blue or grey. It doesn't linger in the air like the typical oil burn but dissipates immediately such that you can never see smoke behind you when driving and looking out the rear or side mirror. Someone suggested the oil rings may be gunked up with carbon. Some have had thoughts of valve stem seals. It doesn't smell oily or anything - you all know that "burned oil" smell... I really don't know but I don't have the facility to pull the engine. Anyway, this is why the price is low. Its axle shafts were rebuilt by CVJ with about 30K miles on them. This is also a grey market car so it has some Euro stuff like the climate controls. 4 spd manual transmission. Manual windows and sunroof. Holds vacuum for locking and stuff for at least a couple nights. Working clock Sorry to TheDon cuz it's white- other than that it's exactly what you were looking for I think. Please ask any questions you wish. My number is 518-469-6496. Or of course email works. This is really a reliable and attractive car, but for that oil consumption. Thanks, Garrison

SOLD
Thanks for your interest everyone. Sold it moments ago to a nice gentleman in Albany. His brother in Maryland owns five W123s so I know between that and us on the forum, he's in very good hands.
Thanks again, Garrison
