I saw the Special Edition notated in his ad, but at quick glance, it isn't one.

The Special Edition models got a lot of options included, but the big give away is the special edition wheels, which this car doesn't have.

The Special Edition models were introduced around April of 1995, so not all 1995 W124 models were Special Editions. The Special Edition package included special metallic paint, special 6 hole alloy wheels, integrated analog cell phone, trunk mounted six-disk CD player, high performance 10 speaker sound system, drivers seat memory, electrically adjustable steering column (no tilt), stainless steel door sills and burl walnut interior trim. On the E320 and E300 diesel the extra cost was $1,295 for the options that were worth about $4,300. The E420 package cost only $495 since it already had burl walnut trim, driver seat memory and the high performance 10 speaker sound system. Paint colors available were Moonstone Grey, Azure Blue, Sapphire Black (exclusive to the Special Edition) and a new color called Brilliant Emerald Green. I think these were the only colors used on the Special Editions.

The official Mercedes Benz of North America position was that the release of the 1995 E Class Special Edition was to celebrate the 10th year of production of the W124 series. I think it was more likely that back in 1995, Mercedes had a tough time moving the W124 E Class since the new W210 E Class was going to be released in the 1996 model year.

This is true I believe, however, some things, like the 6 disc CD changer with the active bass system were standard, at least in my model. Maybe an option? also it did have headlight wipers, though they were removed as they were inop. But yea, for some reason my insurance says special edition model.

A lot of the options were standard on a lot of the W124 cars. They just packaged a lot of them together.

The 6 hole wheels you couldn't got on any W124 car except the Special edition.

Also, the only way you could get burl wood on a non-V8 W124 was with the Special edition model.

I personally don't like the 6 hole wheels. The only option I would've wanted is the burl walnut, which I think looks better than the zebrano.

I'm off to the amtrack station in a little while. Matt is bringing the car down to the big station in Chicago. Beautiful day it looks like and half the driving in Chicago traffic will be fine. The amtrack ticket cost less than $18. I will bring along a few tools, a license plate and some magazines to read and a snack and some water.

All is well.

I had an excellent trip. The car did not miss a beat but when I got up to 85 the sunroof shifted and started roaring.... I had to stop and jimmy it around into a position that sealed better. I guess there must be a linkage kit for these things...?

Yeah, somewhere around 1990 the 2 doors got burl wood, but they had zebrano when they originally came out.

The cabriolets always had burl.

95 E Special Edition

I think the description by Paul S on what was included is exactly correct. I owned a 95 E320 SE for many years and it was optioned just as he said - mine was a very nice blue/black with black interior - had the special stereo, burl wood, heated seats, headlight wipers, integrated phone, CD in trunk, chrome mercedes benz door sill trim, memory seats, telescope steering wheel, and the same wheels that were on the V8 model (6 hole I think). I LOVED that car and still regret selling it (bought it with 38K from MB in Dayton Ohio certified pre-owned @ 3 years old, sold it 5 years later with 147K) - had TONS of issues with it but OMG what a machine!!! And unbelievably I just found it on craigslist last night for sale, had to control myself from calling the guy LOL. If I can ever find a nice cab or diesel 124 I am so buying it - my favorite car of any I have ever owned (even with all its mechanical issues)

I took a roadtrip in my best friends e300 a few years ago. That car is an amazing cruiser. it loves 80-85 mph. Awesome cars. His only has around 120k on it and he has owned it for 10 yrs. It stays in the garage as a third car. It is promised to me one day when he sells.

Tom enjoy that new ride. I hope its a good one for you

its been a while since I've been on the road in a decent benz. The 124 nearly drives itself on the highway with excellent handling and steering. Lovely tourer...

the 3 liter non turbo simply keeps pulling. Its a torque motor. It pulled right up to 90 mph before I had to back off to keep from hitting the car ahead.
