Hey Bill,

Nice catch, I didn't see that one... and I've been looking! The trouble is I live in California and buying an out of state car with less than 7500mi is a hassle to register. The 2000 is ideal because they are likely to be right mileage wise and I can move the Startac phone between it and my ML.
I'm checking Autotrader, Recycler nationwide. Any other ideas where to look?

Thx, Ed

Ed,

Drive it back via Boston and Seattle. That should about do it

You might find something in Hemmings, or have a broker find the right car for you.

The 7500mile rule is not without loopholes. A friend of mine bought a new Z06 through a broker. He picked it up in Atlanta and saved about $10K over SF Bay Area prices.

Sixto,

You're right, if I cruise the nation, the miles will just about be right. The kicker was that the car that was closest to what I'm looking for was Canadian. The ordeal of the bringing a car into the country and then into Cali just seemed too much. Maybe it's a sign, but I'm patient!

I've learned about the Starmark DB and someone told me to check Carpoint. These are sources I haven't tried very much. This thread was started so people could clue me in on new places to check. I'll keep trying!

Thx, Ed

Well good news and bad news.....

I never did find that "perfect" combo of Quartz Blue, K2 & K4 in a MY2000 CLK430 Cab, but I found the next best thing, a black one.

Yep, just bought it over the internet from a dealer and I'm flying over to get it this weekend. The thing has as clean a carfax as I could hope to read and only 7800 miles. The car appears to be like new from the pictures but only time will tell. They drove a hard bargin, but I got a fair price and it included a "chips away" paint touch up and buff/wax detail for the long drive home. So, if I'm lucky I'll be driving a practically new car...

So what's the bad news??? The CLK has the K2a option and Verizon won't give me nationwide plan for the dual-mode Motorola. So I'll end up paying more than I am with my current carrier and I won't have as good of a plan! Then to add insult to injury on my plans, the kit I need for my ML to integrate the phone and move it between cars(my big hope) will cost an arm and a leg...what should I do?

Don't you guys think MB should offer to upgrade their customers phones for a token cost since they changed the phone system so much each year that my 2000 ML was only compatible with another 2000 MB phone system?

Well, I do. I want to know your thoughts....

The Startac in my moms 2000 clk320 has never even had the plastic taken off of it. The Cingular folks just looked at it and said sorry! The problem is the phones MB puts in the car is coming in on the tail end of old technology. The Cingular boy said "They gotta be tri-mode to work on our plans!" Well tri-mode was here in 2000 in Ga. I do not know about other areas in the US.

My phone is from 2000 or 2001 SLK. It is a dual mode startac. I got it activated with verizon no problemo.

I have no idea if yours is the same or similar phone, but mine works great everywhere I have been so far. but I don't have a nationwide plan, I rarely travel out of this state, except to las vegas, and my phone works there. If I travel anywhere else, its always out of the country, and well I never have a need for the phone outside the us.

Congrats on the purchase, send some pics our way when you get a chance.

Alon
