Do you know why the tranny went out at such low miles on the odo? I wonder if I am living on borrowed time with mine (190,000 miles). Good luck with the sale.

Anyway I don't know. 150000 is on the early side maybe. But the how to fix reverse on w124zone.com -- his had 90000 or so I think. Mine had shifting problems pretty soon after I bought it in Indiana about 4 years ago. It had 128,000. The kid and his family i got it from seemed real nice and swore the odometer was accurate. they said a local mechanic owned it before them. I paid $4500 for it then.

I towed some cars across town with it a couple times - other 124 s . I used to like to put it in neutral and slow coast the last 3/4 mile home evryday. I think that was bad for it anyone know? Maybe the guys before towed heavy stuff and maybe didn't change fluid. Hard to say.

After about 10,000 miles it started not shifting into 4 th on highway sometimes when it got good and hot. I tried transx , lots, changing fluid and then reverse started getting real bad and finally wouldnt go at all. It is common. Most go around 200000 , 250000. We had three in my shop this summer with reverse out. One was a 1992 I got on here from a member and it had 250000. Another was my friends and it had right at 191000 and another was my wagon with about 149000. Let me tell you , once you have a fresh rebuilt tranny in you can tell how tired your old one was and it is awesome. My friend says he gets better mpg.

But it is definitely common on these 124s. Its not a matter of if. It is when. When reverse goes don't do like we did and keep driving as you do more damage. You can sometimes Just fix the reverse gear. But we toasted ours. It was 950.00 for the rebuild with us doing the R&R

So I got at least $6500 in this thing not counting any labor and it's way better then when I bought it. If interested make an offer. I could do a partial trade too. I need some work on my garge, a wood splitter, painting , etc.

You may not get in the cheap wagon club but youll be in a strange different club -- the i dont have to work on my car this weekend club

I'm really curious about this. I drove a 1991 Corolla putting into neutral frequently while coasting on the freeway and going back into gear at good speed and it's (manual) transmission went out. I haven't had issue doing this with automatic Mercedes transmissions but have to wonder. I also like to shift into neutral approaching stop lights - my timing or fuel supply is a bit off and the car will shake randomly if left in Drive at a stop.

Updating some of my posts tonight. Don't you hate people that never do that and leave their question unanswered? Anyway, I sold this to a nice local chap for $4500. He's happy and it's servicing him well I think. The glow plug relay went out on him a week after he got it. I went and put an old one i had lying around in it for him for free and suggested he invest in a newer one sometime that has after glow.

And some great news for me is I was trying to sell my sisters 2005 Passat TDI wagon for her and no one wanted to pay bluebook for it. So I'm buying it from her for 8000.00. So i still have a wagon . Yeah. And it is so awesome too. It's solid and newer and gets 34 mpg on highway but only 27 around town. And you can throw two kids in the way back and seat 7 in a pinch . I did it going from the ball park one night. Kids really don't need a seat back there. Just seat belts. And maybe some pillows.
