Sold

Car sold today. Thanks to everyone on the forum. i will still visit occasionally, but not so much until i get myself another W123.

Car sold for $10,500.

**Disclaimer**
After i had made an agreement to sell it to andrewjtx, i received some other offers for more money. I decided to honor my word and sell it at the price we agreed, and not try to give the deposit back just to try and get some more from someone else. So there might be a person or 3 that are pissed that I sold the car. Sorry you were too late in responding and a deal was made. I wanted to be able to sleep good after selling the car, and not have this car depart in bad reputation.
**End Disclaimer**

That's nice to read.

There have been first responders here in the past come to the seller's terms and come to find out later from the seller that the original buyer was ignored for more money from local strangers. Losing one's reputation and integrity means nothing to some. You did it right.

Good luck on your future MBing!

That's the way to do it honorably. My last car purchase fell through because after agreeing on a price (which was his asking price) and payment schedule, I sent appropriately-dated checks to the seller. He then cashed my deposit check, and everything seemed well and good. A couple weeks later, I received all my checks back in the mail voided out and a check refunding the deposit amount. He didn't write anything nor has he answered any E-mail since then, but according to another forum member, he was asking them for a fair bit more than the price we agreed on after we'd made the deal, so presumably he found a better offer. Not very nice. Better to be a man of your word, and set an appropriate initial asking price rather than jacking it up later in private after you get some interest.

The really frustrating part is that if he would have communicated with me I would have been willing to pay a bit more. Oh well.

clay bar is a must for a proper detail job. I do that once a year and keep up with a generic wash with nice car soap called duragloss about once every week or 2 weeks.

I do however use a wax that is very HD - its called collinite insulator wax.

@ skid row joe,

try claying your car first - those spots might be the aftermath of someone using pledge furniture shine to shine their car. Its silicone based and causes all sorts of frustration.

p.s. I use the 5 dollar clay from hong kong. Its quite big too. I cut it in 2 pieces and am still have one remaining.

headlamp wipers were the only unique item otherwise it is a plain w124 - it does have green tint heat insulating glass (mentioned in the build sheet I have - if thats unique)

When he cashed your check, you most likely had an enforceable contract in place. You could in theory drag him into court to enforce the sale of the car. Almost certainly not worth the time and effort, but contracts are enforceable - even oral agreements (under specific circumstances).

Great guy

For the record, Artic is a great guy. I look forward to treating this car as well as he did.

When he gets ready for another great Benz, I will help him scour the country for one. Probably offer to road trip with him to pick one up.

Andrewjtx,

I forgot to give you the new windshield wiper and found one more key. If you are on your back back from Galveston, you could drop by my house and get them. I think you should get the key, otherwise i might be tempted to swing by your house and take the E300d for a quick cruise.

Andrew, enjoy that car. I miss my 95 alot. The W210 seem "wallowy" as compared to the lighter and tighter 95.
