1983 non-running 240D
This car spent most of it's life in the Chicago area. It has some of the typical rust, but fortunately not a terrible lot of the structural rust. The pictures show the rust I know about, and I looked in all the usual places and took pictures so you get a good idea of what you're getting...which ain't bad except for the bottoms of the doors. *AS FAR AS I CAN TELL THERE IS NO RUST BETWEEN THE LAYERS OF UNDERCOATING IN THE PAN AREAS* other than the one area shown which is under the passenger seat where water typically collects from a window seal/hood hinge pocket leak.
Manual climate control Manual sun roof Power windows all work Rear glass good Front has one small crack (I think?!) Desirable light aluminum wheels Good interior save one tear on driver's seat It appears that all the front 'boots' remain uncompromised and the main bushings are all solid rather than rotten. Rear axle boots are ripped though. Rear control arms are solid, no rust, and the bushings appear to be decent from cursory inspection (I've done those and they're a PITA). Paint is so-so with some oxidization, but not terrible. I got the car when the cam towers and camshaft broke as the previous owner was driving it. I picked it up shortly after it happened and towed it and it has been sitting for over 1 year now. I was going to put my good drivetrain in it but don't have the time/money/space. Cry me a river! I'll just keep driving my rusted out 300D that actually runs!!! So, what is this worth to you? I'm thinking $500 ish ?! Thanks everybody!!! Last edited by indybenz; 08-28-2013 at 10:24 PM. |

The plastic wheel well covers (what's the word?) are inside the car; I took them off to check for rust. The heat shield 'junk' on the passenger floor is where I pulled it up to check for rust.
