FS - 1983 240D Portland, OR

FS - 1983 240D beige with a blue interior and no sunroof. Manual transmission, power windows. I have done a lot of work to the car over the years: rebuilt front suspension (german parts), new clutch, new brakes, rebuilt injectors (by Greazzer). Motor starts quickly and runs with plenty of power (for a 240). Oil consumption is average with about a quart between changes. I have throughly enjoyed this car, but I have fallen for a w116 300sd so this car just sits. I drive it occasionally to charge the battery and warm up the oil, but it needs to go to someone who will use it. I am asking $1800 but am open to offers. Body is rust free expect around the rear window and the front fender (paint is cracking and surface rust has set in.

Thanks,

-John

Decent looking 240, the rust under the rear window would concern me. What you see is the tip of the Ice Burg. The front fender would be easy to replace and paint, but rust in the body.............

No Sun Roof, manual trans is a plus for me. Between 1 & 10 I would guess a 7.

I see it still has the Becker Europa Cassette analog radio.

Thanks for the heads up in the missing exhaust hangers.

Honestly, the only body rust I can find is under the rear window and the front fender. I've poked and prodded in the floor, wheel wells, rockers, etc and cannot find any body rust. According to carfax, the car was bought in Texas. I bought it in Atlanta, GA in 2007 and then trailered it out to Portland. For what it's worth, I still use the original jack points without any problems.

The a/c does not work. I replaced the compressor, drier, and expansion valve in 2008 and evacuated and filled with R12. A few months later, the belt jumped the compressor pulley (had the spacers in wrong and the belt wasn't tight enough) and took out the compressor clutch wiring. I have not checked to see if the system is still charged. I did replace the orings from the evaporator/condenser to the hoses. I was sick of messing with it, and I haven't really wanted a/c since I've been in Portland.

The odometer stopped at 253k a couple of years ago. I fixed it once with with Loctite, but it has since failed again. I would guess about 280k but that is just a guess. I haven't driven the car a ton. It does have the original becker cassette radio. The radio works ok most of the time. The cassette player is out of commission. I did upgrade the headlights to the Autopal H4s - the difference was noticeable.

Do you guys think the price is reasonable? I am wide open to offers. I would prefer the car go to an enthusiast rather than someone on craigslist looking for a cheap ride.

Your price is very good. I'd be over there if I didn't live on the other left coast .

More Pics

Here are a few more pictures showing the lack of rust in the body - drivers and passenger side floors/rockers and trunk wells. I forgot to mention this car has the aluminum rims under the hubcabs.
