You should add "during that ten day period." The risk associated with any Ebay auction is that you're testing the market in a narrow slice of time. I'll continue to list on Craigslist (which always where I've had the most success), then maybe try another auction in the Spring (if I need to).

Shertex- Sorry the sale didn't go exactly as hoped. But all you need is to find two bidders who want your car, and the auction could go totally differently next time.

Thanks. I'm not discouraged....it was entertaining to be able to test the waters. In the meantime, I'll enjoy the car. I'll drop my Craigslist price a bit and, if I need to, do another auction in the Spring.

Things seem dead now anyway. Guy down the street has a virtually perfect 95 E320 wagon...Southern car, no rust, the list goes on. Started at $3600, now asking $2500, no inquiries at all.

But I really do appreciate you guys helping me to have a more realistic and sober sense of the market. Thanks again.

I wonder I'd some people were scared away by the BIN price -- "Well, I could never top reserve on that car; look at his BIN price!" Also, how much does it cost to list the sucker on eBay? I would keep it up there for a bit longer -- maybe also reach out to the highest bidder and offer to negotiate. I can see that someone might go for $6000 but not $7500.

That's a good thought about the BIN. It's a double-edged sword. If it's the right amount, it gives the person who just must have an item the opportunity to snag it....but I can see how it would be off putting. For My E300 auction, there's no BIN.

For the 190 listing I paid $2 for the pictures, $5 for a BIN price, $15 to have a reserve, and $18 to extend the auction to 10 days....so $40 total. For the E300, I'm paying just for pics and a reserve.

Don't forget the huge final value fee they take if it sells. That price recently went up.

It's different for cars....$125 if sale price over $2000, $60 if $2000 or less. But, yes, for other items it's something like 10%.

yup, cars have been the majority of what ive tried to sell on ebay. Fee used to be under 40 bucks for a value under 2k.

Since most cars ive sold on ebay have been max 1500 dollar wonders, that 60 bucks really starts to bite hard.

Well, that's market now - you could keep running a new ebay auction every week or so, until you're certain you won't get the $7,500 or so that you will take for it. But @ a high-bid of $3,050, first time around - I don't think $7,500 is attainable. Just a hunch.

No, I don't want to keep giving money to Ebay. At most, I'd do one more auction....in the Spring. I've always had my best success with Craigslist anyway.

Heck, I thought that if you called off an auction, (which you did not do) that relisting was gratis? Or, if the item did not sell - you got another run for free? I guess I'm not up on EBay.

Here's what I was told: "Your item didn't sell this time around. Why not relist it? We'll refund your insertion fees if your item sells."

I'd put it back on ebay and let it run.

I've followed the same car run on ebay back to back to back. You'd surprised how different each auction ends.

You just need the right bidders bidding up the price.

I had one guy come look at the car who's been looking for a nice condition 190E for his kids for about a year....although he ultimately decided to get an E320 that was available locally for a great price, he commented that mine was by far the best example he's seen. So I'm pretty confident that, for the person who really wants a 190, mine should command a respectable price.
