FS: 1992 500SL with upgrades $8k OBO Northern Nevada

1992 500SL black on black
100k miles
recently replaced transmission with new one from Sun Valley Mercedes Transmissions in Van Nuys, CA. Has about 1k miles on it now
(2 year unlimited mileage warranty)
5.0 V8 322 HP, 0 to 60 in 6.1 seconds

New parts:

Transmission
Fuel distributor
Fuel pumps
Fuel filters
Front brakes rotors and pads, rears 60% left
Air filters
Spark plugs
New front tires 235/40, rears about 70% left 275/35
Vacuum switch distributor for HVAC

Upgrades:

18" offset rims 8.5 & 9.5
H&R sports springs, lowers it slightly and handles better around corners
Bilstein B4 shock/struts.
Radiator cooling fan converted from fan clutch to electric (still have fan/clutch)
Kenwood stereo head unit, 3 pre-outs, USB/Aux/CD
Kenwood 6.5 door speakers
Alpine 4 ch amp 3rd/4th ch bridged for sub
Alpine 10" sub with sealed enclosure with Fishman aluminum chrome grill
headlight bulbs 100/80w
2001 LCD OD/Trip instrument cluster (Mercedes upgrade for earlier models)
Later model clear/amber front turn signals
Later model steering wheel (airbag dated 2002)

Issues:

Paint very glossy though original, so etchings from bird dropping, minor scratches. Only seen when up close.
Dome over head map light does not come on with door(s) and only one of the two comes on with the switch
both door/foot lights come on when opening doors
central locking vacuum needs repair, so everything needs to lock by key
(the module works if I tap it, so I think the circuit board inside needs re-soldering)
Soft top canvass needs replacing and issue with control module or micro switches so does not operate with switch only manual
Powered antenna does not work, in fixed position (though I have a hidden amplified FM antenna connected to the radio)
Head rest motors work, but not gears to move them (powered memory seats do work)

Otherwise runs and drives excellent with cold AC
Very clean interior with no rips in seats
Carpet and mats in very good condition

Note: Fan switches on/off by temp sensor switch. Never gets hotter than 80C

Note: Center cap has been changed from sliver to chrome (as in other photos)

Sorry no.
It's a friends car I work on.
He has two identical 93s and also a 93 500sl he would never part with.

Me, I like different things.
I purchase a car, fix it up, use it for a while then try something else.
Just something I like to do. I don't have a wife nor kids, so it leaves a lot of free time.

I'm thinking about getting an early model Porsche Boxster 2.7 6 speed manual
Liked it after working on a customer's car.

I worked on a neighbors 92 400E. He wouldn't sell it either. Last of the true MBs. The Boxster is a helluva car! Especially with the 6 speed. You'll truly enjoy it! I only date, no reason to get married or have kids. Why would I support someone else besides me and my toys?

I had a 93 400E with ASR (traction control) I liked when it snowed here.
Neither of his has it.
After having a M119 4.2 I wanted the 5.0

Yes, the owner let me drive the Boxster while I was fixing it. Despite it's 217 HP engine it is very quick.
I think it does 0 to 60 in 6.0 seconds (2000 model)
Of course the latest new ones have more HP.

Some of the same issues on my 97 that I'll tend to at some point.

Do some searching on the Boxter, supposedly some years have engine troubles.

Typical issues are the oil separator causing oil to burn through the intake, IMS bearings and or sometimes the main seals fail.
All depends on previous owners of course.

The one I worked on had about 100k and an older couple owned it for most of those miles and took care of it. Then sold it at 90k miles.

It wasn't until some ass-hat took advantage of a woman to finance it for him. He was always late on payments and drove it into the ground. The water pump shaft broke so it was leaking pretty well, also the oil separator was fouling the plugs and making a mess in the intake plenum, MAF, intake boot, etc..., and the tires were shot.

He brought the car to me to repair, and of course, try to con me into him making payments. I found, from the registration, he didn't own the car. Agreed with the owner she would pay for the repairs then put it up for sale.
We agreed to keep him out of the loop. He even threaten me that he would report the car stolen. I said good luck with that, you don't even own the car. In fact we should call the cops on you for threatening me, and I found out later he threatened her.
What a dirt bag freeloader.

What's funny is that the idiot signed an agreement that if he was late on any payments he would forfeit whatever past payment he made and the car can be repo'd. Needless to say he didn't have a legal leg to stand on.

That's exactly what I emailed him back (jokingly).
He was serious and wrote: "What do you consider a lot of weed?"

I had to tell him that even if I was thinking of considering it I'd have helicopters and sniffing dogs at my place faster then you could say;
"Miami Vice".

I bet he was clueless about what I was talking about.
