1985 300SD Western MA - Southern Car

Current Mileage: 122,000
Asking Price: $6,500 OBO
Location: Western Massachusetts
VIN#:WDBCB20C1FA175226

I bought this car in NC in 2008 with 84,000 on the odometer and since that time it has been my daily driver. I am an OCD "fix it before it breaks" kind of person so I have a tall stack of repair/parts receipts as well as a few oil analysis reports. I always had the intention of driving it forever but two things have made me rethink this: having a kid and buying a house. I just don't have the time to put into this car that it deserves to keep it tip-top and I can't afford to pay a mechanic to do it for me.

The good:

Any rust that is on this car (and there is almost none) is from the past two winters of New England habitation. I did the best I could -keeping it in a garage, frequent under-carriage baths- but, being my daily driver, I can't say it has never seen a salt-treated road. But as the pictures or a personal visit will show, it is essentially a rust-free car. The body and interior are in excellent condition. Every mechanic that has looked at this car has said it is one of the best ones they have ever seen.

The engine is in terrific shape (no veggie oil ever)- great cold starts, great pick-up, I add less than a quart of oil between changes. I've been using Mobil M1 TD&T and changing the oil approx. every 3,000- 4,000 miles. The valves have been done 4 times since I've owned it. The ABS works perfectly. All drive-line rubber parts (mounts, flex discs) have been replaced. New Bilstein shocks, new oil and transmission cooler hoses, rebuilt axles, a couple of rebuilt calipers, replaced differential, replaced power-steering box, some steering components, new muffler. In tracing down a drive-line rumble I put in a rebuilt drive-shaft but kept the original so this car comes with an extra drive shaft (no longer available new). There is far too much to list here, but if you are interested you can see all the receipts yourself. All fluids/filters were changed according to manufacturer's recommendations/schedule.

The bad:

A couple of the rebuilt parts put in by an earlier mechanic haven't lived up to expectations. A rebuilt rear brake caliper has some surface rust and one of the rebuilt axles is leaking some fluid. I put in a rebuilt AC compressor with a new drier and TX valve a few years ago but the compressor leaked out PAG oil on a sub-zero day (noticed the puddle before I started the car). I unplugged it immediately and it hasn't been run since so no compressor parts fouled up the AC system. A new compressor should be all you need to get the AC running again. The drivers driver's seat spring is broken and the driver's side rear window regulator needs attention (haven't looked to see what the problem is).

It will come as no surprise to anyone here that prices for these cars are all over the map. I am asking what I think is a fair price for a well-maintained, rust-free car with low miles. Having said that, I will entertain other offers. I will post more interior/engine-bay photos when I can and am happy to answer any questions you may have.

One clarification: The car lived with me in NC until late 2010. It's first New England Winter it spent in the garage while I used public transportation. It only saw daily winter use starting in Winter 2011/2012.
