I have owned this car since 1985. I got it when it was a couple of months old when it had 2000 miles on the clock. The car is in Brooklyn, NY, and runs very well. Engine and transmission need no attention. The mileage on this car is currently 168,000 miles. Rare model built as legacy example. Cold a/c. Always cared for and maintained with new parts installed as needed. Oil changed every 2.500 - 3,000 miles. Some rust. Reliable, very restorable, and very driveable anywhere. Price is $3700.

Will probably run forever with proper care. Considered one of Mercedes' best designed and engineered diesel engines.

I own three other cars and I use this car on very little (a few miles per week). It would be best for someone who has the inclination to care for it going forward.

Repairs and replacement parts:
The a/c compressor was replaced about five years ago, the shocks around the same time, the original exhaust lasted twenty-five years and has now been replaced with a new oem exhaust (I think it was Bosal), the brakes have a few thousand miles on them with new rotors but they are somewhat bumpy because of low use, the original alternator was replaced about six months ago, the starter was replaced about five years ago, the radiator was replaced about five years ago, the water pump was replaced about three or four years ago. The right side rear shock mount was replaced about three years ago. It may just be a missing rubber exhaust hanger, I have not looked very carefully yet. The heater control sometimes cuts out (not often). I have a new control module that I have not installed. The electronics and vacuum systems are fine, although the window control switches should be either cleaned or replaced as the rear window switches need cleaning and are currentlynot working. The windows do work, however, when tested with another switch. A few weeks ago, the drivers window switch stopped working. The window is fine when tested with the right side window switch. I did not get a chance to clean the switch and test. The dashboard top has cracked in a couple of places. Most of the wear is typical of this model.

Over the years it has received faithful maintenance by Mercedes and by a friend of mine who had a shop. He still works on the car when it needs work, at a shop he moonlights at. The fluids and filter have faithfully been change. the belts are a few years old. Mercedes adusted the valves and rebuilt the front end bushings tie rods ends, etc, at about 100k miles. Oil every 2500 miles for years although now I replace it once a year because the car is only used a couple of thousand miles per year. I have typically used Rotella 15w40.

As you see, I have cared for the car. I have owned it for nearly thirty years, and I have mixed feeling about selling it vs. restoring the body and the giving attention to the few things it now needs.

I have an extra set or wheels as I always put four snow tires on the car for winter. The all-season set of wheels needs new tires. For this winter, I mounted the snow tires. These are four Michelin Arctic snow tires (rather worn and older). It is a great car. I drove it up to Maine a few years ago on a one thousand mile trip. I preferred to take that rather than my new (at the time - 2008) Mercedes CLS. I also have a 2007 Mercedes ML350 SUV that my wife drives, and a Mercedes C230 (supercharged) that I use as my utility car....I primarily used the car for mostly highway trips to and from work on Long Island and then to NJ, from Brooklyn.

The car was used for trips back and forth to PA when my daughter was in college at Bryn Marw. It was her car while in college. I got that car when she was six, and always told it would be her car when she went to college. She took wonderful car of the car, but returned it to me after graduation in 2000 because she moved to NYC, and has been there since. By that time, I had a newer car in the garage and this CD was parked in the street, and has been parked outside since. Before that, it was essentially a garage queen, always waxed and covered. So there you have some history. The car now has rust issues, but nothing that connot be fixed in a small number of hours. The jackpoints are still sturdy, the passenger side floor pan needs to be welded/patched along with the rocker panel passenger side.

The clock does not work. The sunroof stopped working about four years ago. There are a few minor things that require very little attention. The interior is in very good shape. The seats are not torn or otherwise showing wear. I really hate to sell the car. It is on the street in front of my house and it really has become surplus to our needs. The car can be restored or driven as is.

Nice Car. How bad is the rust in the wheel wells? Any other rust? I have a buddy in Jackson Hole looking for a daily driver as he has a Super Duty truck that drains his wallet faster than a vacume.

Thanks. The rust can be fixed without too much hassle. The car is in Brooklyn, NY...a long way from Jackson Hole.
