I think it's time. FS Norm, 1980 300TD $4000

I never thought I would ever be making this thread, but the day has come. I think it is time to sell Norm, and all of my parts I have for him, to someone that will finish what I have started. I’ve realized that having one car is enough (well two, the 190E is never leaving me), and that I won’t have the time to finish Norm any time soon. So here it goes!

The Good:
Completely rebuilt and resealed AC system. Bosch R4 compressor, R12, completely flushed, completely sealed with new o-rings, etc. etc. etc. Blows 28* when it’s 85 out, and around 32 when it’s 90+. It is, however, an AC system from the 1980’s so it’s not so great when not moving. Also tinting windows would vastly help.

Front end completely rebuilt using Bilstein, Lemforder, and Mercedes parts only. Wheel bearings, shocks, springs, control arm bushings, tie rods, center rod, stabilizer shock, ball joints, guide rod mounts, etc. Literally EVERY piece has been replaced.

New water pump (Lasso)

Rear accumulators replaced, SLS works great.

Recent glow plugs.

The ACCII “evil servo” has been replaced with an aluminum body unit and
works flawlessly.

All windows and vacuum locks work.

Blower motor replaced.

AC Amp replaced.

New flex discs (both sides, Lemforder), drive shaft support and bearing.

Trans serviced within the last year, shifts smoothly and DexIII only.

Brake master cylinder replaced a few years ago.

New thermostat.

New valve cover gasket.

Recent valve adjustment, though it could probably use it again.

Several vacuum related components replaced (mostly trans related) during my ownership.

Transmission mount replaced, also Lemforder.

Motor mounts replaced in the last few months with Lemforder units.

Rear SLS lines replaced.

Nardi Torino steering wheel (still have stock wheel).

Front and rear calipers rebuild.

Front and rear brake lines replaced.

Akebono carbon ceramic pads front and rear.

Tires were replaced in 2010 and have decent tread on them.

Mechanically, it is a very sound and very smooth driving car.
The engine is actually in good shape, though I wanted to swap a turbo motor in to it eventually. It does need valve stems and seals, which I also will include with the car. Mostly just for blowby reasons.

The Bad:

RUST. There is rust on every door, both front fenders, and in the rear wheel arches. From the countless hours that I’ve spent under the car I HAVE NOT found ANY on the chassis itself. It’s all on the body panels, and as far as I can tell it all started from rock chips. I DO have two rust free rear doors, a rear hatch, and a very nice front passenger fender that will go with the car. The rear hatch on the car is actually fine, I just found a 300TD in the yard and had to have it. The current black fender is aftermarket, and while it lines up fine it’s not the exact same as the Mercedes one. Honestly, the body work is what’s really holding me back from making this a very nice 123. I just don’t have the funds.

The rear axles are making noise. Lots of clicking from both sides, they will need to be replaced.

The rear subframe bushings are original, though I have new ones which will come with the car. There is no weird swaying or swerving, but they should be replaced.

The SLS in the rear is “noisy” but it was in my 124 wagon as well so I’ve never been worried about it.

Front windshield seal leaks. Windshield is pitted.

Injectors are original as far as I’m aware. Could stand to be serviced.

Drivers seat has a bolster rip in it, but I have an entire new upper leather piece that will come with the car. It’s in perfect condition.

That’s about all I can think of right now, but I’ll keep updating it as I remember good/bad stuff.

Parts:

I have an absolute TON of parts for this car that WILL go with the car. I mean it’s a garage full! I do NOT want to separate this from the car because I want the next owner to make this car nice and have the means to do so.

Off the top of my head there are rear doors, a hatch, a fender, trim pieces, axle boots, more brake lines, new cluster, rear suspension bushings, lots of interior pieces like switches, and much much MUCH more that I will catalogue and add to this thread.

I also have a 240D 4-speed swap that will go with the car. Complete swap including pedals, shifter, trans, etc. The front prop shaft will need modification, and the transmission cross-member will need modification, but otherwise it’s all there.

For the car, and all of the parts that I have, I am asking for $4000 firmly. It is mechanically sound, has functioning AC, and has very literally driven me across the country and back! I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it anywhere today, and until a few weeks ago it was my daily. This is a well documented car on the forum, so feel free to look through my history.

I’ll keep updating the thread as time goes on and take some better pictures
(honestly I have to go to work right now!).

This is the worst spot. Drivers fender.

Drivers fender

Driver rear wheel arch.

Passenger rear wheel arch.

Passenger front door.

Driver rear door.

And a nice album of some of the fun adventures I've had with him.

That is a nice looking W123 wagon!

Clearly the views of what is "rust" are different in florida than up here.

Up here you'd say "minor blemishes"

Looks nice. The rust is a wild card. If you could post a few pictures of rust it might give the reader an idea about how serious the rust is to them... Maybe not so bad for some people...

Working on more photos and a better list of included parts.

Like I said, the rust is limited to body panels.

Front fenders and doors are easy to replace and good cores are available in CA. I have no idea how people on the east coast get good rust-free body parts like those though and shipping is a pain. I think your pictures are a great addition to this thread and give people an idea of the rust situation in a way that hopefully will encourage them to purchase your car since the rust to me looks to not really be "important" rust.

Price lowered to $3000 minus the Nardi wheel and Manual Trans.
