i would like to hear your oppinion. 2002 S500 44k miles. Cleveland
hi. i am not sure where to post this but here it is. i have a 2002 S500 which has only about 44k original miles on it. it has some rust problems which i am taking care of with professionals right now and a broken rear catalytic converter. thats all. my question is what does it worth. its in great condition. always babied. kept in heated garage (rust is because of the cleveland weather and salt..) oil changes all made on time. i have it for 4 years and the reason i am selling is i am just bored. also not being able to do stuff on it myself doesnt helps either. i'd prefer older ones since i am much familiar with them. the reason i bought this model was just because my dad loved it at the time. but when he saw the expenses on maintaining them he left the car to me. so thats the story. the mechanics are great, has plenty of power (which i love) everything works. other than this rust and cat issue there is nothing wrong with it. your oppinions are important to me so thank you very much for all.

Between $8000 and $10000, depending on its presentation and documentation of all those positive things you've said. Sadly, and I come from the rust belt myself, the rust issue will push it to the bottom end of that range and possibly below.

A lot of W220s are ending up in the yards in the mass. Cost a lot to repair if you aren't a DIY guy. Typical death sentence for these is the rust and Airmatic system.
No more than $6500.00. I can pick up S430s all day for $5500.00 and under.

Exactly IMO. I haven't liked the S-Classes since the early W140s. I'm real familiar mechanically with a W220 and W221s but would not own either as my personal vehicle.

thank you guys for all your oppinions that you said. you re right its like a problem child. but i was taking care of it myself. but i am bored id prefer a w140 or w126 rather than w220. i think i will push my luck after taking care of the rust issues. i hope someone would like it and buy it. i got ripped off by the dealer at first but i know i would never get back that money. but i like the drive anyways. we will see how it turns out... i will post it in this forum if i post it up for sale. thanks again.

They do not bring much here in NE Tennessee either and the ones down here are rust free. We have more W220s that we do W140s and though it seems the W140s are priced low, the early W220s are even lower. I guess it varies from region to region. I have a 1993 W140 that is 100% rust free, even the undercarriage is like new - not even a speck of rust and I am struggling to even get $2800 for it - despite NADA showing it is much higher.
Good luck! |
