For sale, daily driver, past 6 years 1985 300SD

Someone is coming to look at it tomorrow. They may buy it and part it out. What is a fair deal for that scenario? 410,000 mi

Ok, I should have read the instruction info about listing a vehicle.

1985 300SD, I purchased it in 2008. Got it with 273,000 miles, now 410,000
I have the car in Pittstown, NJ 08867
Looking for $1700.00

There is some rust at the rear wheel wells

Finish looks bad, clear coat peeling and moonroof and hood are white, car is cream with Chocolate Brown Interior

Worked on it from 2008 until now...
Here's what i remember working on

New shocks all around
new calipers and rotors
front bearings
most of the front end rubber, ball joints control arms
relay for the glow plugs
new exhaust system
flex discs
starter
3 valve adjustments since i bought it
vac line repairs to get transmission to downshift better
gear oil swap in diff
blower motor for climate control
desoldered broken connections on climate control boards

ac repaired, but only lasted a year... clutch froze up. never dealt with it again.

alternator and adjustment bracket replaced

Transmission filter and fluid change, at least twice

had to replace hood and moonroof. moonroof is taped shut

assorted electric repairs, small stuff, solder a rotten terminal end, change bulbs in trunk

routine oil changes at 3000 to 3500 miles

recently hit a deer. replaced the passenger side lights and grill. hood is bent a bit on pass side. got lucky, could have been much worse.

New hoses that go from Oil filter housing to the oil cooler
New radiator

just replaced water pump

needs trailing arm bushings on pass rear

Two windows work. A third one needs the regulator, 4th one (electric problem)

just got tired of repairing things every other weekend, or so, I decided to get something newer. My new hobby will be writing a monthly check for my car payment! It's a trade off...

If you get anywhere near $1700. laugh all the way to the bank. Just my opinion but that is a fair price at $750.

If I donate it to a public TV station, wonder what I can deduct from my taxes next year... It still gets 29 mpg

How do you get 29MPG? I have never gotten close to that on my 81 300SD.

i donated a similar vehicle and the tax deduction was around 350......unless you're itemizing (hint: we own a house and have a rental property and the standard deduction is more than if we itemize) it isn't worth it. $1700 for a car that is on the parts car threshold seems optimistic

Tax deduction depends on your tax bracket.

If your in the 18 percent range, you'll get 180 dollars IF it sells for 1,000.
BIG if, I'd bet that car wouldn't get 500 dollars at a donation auction.

There might be a floor on the deduct, i.e.; a minimum dollar amount.
The donation game ain't what it used to be.

At this point, the car's value is in it's parts, and at 410K miles, you've done got all the good that car had in it, ain't much left.

Jim
