1985 300TD S. California RF Fender damage

SOLD 2/14/2015

my story of woe....

I buy the best wagon I can find in 2010. Fix it up for 2 years. Sell it in 2012. Sam the Surfer buys it. Someone in a Prius hits the right front fender pretty hard wiping out the front of the Prius and most of the RF fender of the 300TD. Sam gets a different job that requires driving so he buys a Honda. 1 year later, (last week) Sam texts me and wants the car to go. He isn't going to work on it anymore, doesn't like it parked on the street. So I buy it, both because I want my aluminum wheels back and because I don't want it going to the crusher.

What's been done to the car in the past 25,000 miles:
Radiator, rebuilt auto transmission (Sun Valley Mercedes), suspension work, AC work, exhaust work. Everything works great including cruise, SLS, turbo, etc. The things that don't work: AC probably lost charge in the accident, it worked before and now it doesn't blow cold. Sunroof needs maintenance - hard to close. And of course the right front fender.

I would like to see this car go to someone who will take the time to fix it and drive it. I gave up this morning sitting on my ass at the Pick Your Part in Anaheim about to sawzall out an inner fender (for the body shop) and decided that I am not going to do that much work for a car that I'm not keeping. But I have already acquired the outer fender, fender liner, front bumper, headlight assembly, turn signal.

The car drives great and has no frame damage.

Before pics are representative of what the car looks like except for the accident, and can be found here:

And accident photos are attached.

If you are interested and want to come take a look or a drive, let me know. I'm keeping the wheels with hubcaps.

couple of questions:

1) title status?

2) asking price

3) possibility of getting out the BFH, slapping a fender on temporarily and driving it across the country?

pm or email w/ reply, por favor

1. clean title in my name. Not salvage
2. I'm going to advertise it for $4000 and figure I'll get $3000
3. I see no problem driving it. I've put about 200 miles on it since I got it back. don't know what BFH is. I have already sourced the bumper, fender, fender liner, headlamp assembly. I got lazy about the inner fender and the sawzall.

I tried a slightly different approach to the BFH. I connected a tow strap around the remaining part of the fender and pulled it out some using another car. I don't think it will be difficult to get a different fender on the car. So you gonna come buy it?

Does this include the parts you sourced? What wheels are you going to put on the car? Any chance of posting some more current pictures of the rest of the car?

Yes, it includes the parts I sourced. I want them to go with the car.

Unless buyer wants otherwise (or has own wheels) I was going to put the truly dreadful chrome bundts on the car that came with it, along with decent tires. I also have two very good 14 x 6 steel wheels with good tires if someone wants the hubcap look but I don't have an additional 2 steel wheels to complete a set.

The rest of the car quite honestly looks as it did in the photo album in the first post except that there is a surfing sticker on the rear window and the MP3 jack no longer works and is not there. Correction - the car looks better. The in-between-owner did a lot of engine cleaning and installed a new hood pad. Car looks great.

bfh or equivalent! nice...i've been using the winch on my rollback to pull body damage and have been pretty fortunate.

I have been asked if there is hood damage. The right front corner of the hood got a small hit, it would be a fix-not-replace thing...

OK, I spent all of Friday and most of Saturday working on it and sort of have it put together. The damage to the car (besides the fender) was the inner fender forward of the shock tower and the headlight surround for the passenger side. In a better world I would have cut that out of the donor car and had it welded in. Instead I did what I could with tools and it isn't bad. As you can see from the pictures, I pushed the headlight assembly in too far where it meets the fender. (It's correct on the radiator side). First it was in WAY too far from the accident, then I pulled it out too far (you will enjoy the pics of that) and then I realized it was out too far and I pushed it back in some with a 2x4 and a sledge hammer. Unfortunately I pushed it in about 3/4" too much and I'm too tired of working on it to un-do everything and try to adjust it.

Here are the pics. $3000 obo. I will be driving to Phoenix in a couple of weeks FWIW and could bring the car if someone wants it delivered for some extra $$$.

One odd thing, the HVAC seems to be getting now power and I haven't investigated. It worked fine before I was hammering on the car so I don't know what it is but I'm sure it will be easy to figure out.

Thanks. I'm pleased with the result. I kind of wish I had have gotten the headlight distance better but oh well. Really whoever buys it should take off the fender (which is easy) and weld up and pull the metal a little more. Plus it would be much easier to paint the fender not on the car.

I have a friend in Montebello whose son may be interested in your TD. His name is Joe Ortega (father) and the son is Jay Ortega. They own a body shop. I will check with him on Monday.
