85 300CD for sale
I've regretfully decided to sell my 85 300CD, Goldilocks.
She's been in storage for the last year and a half, and I just got her out this last week. I had been saving the car for my daughter, but she still has not even taken driver's training (she's 17 & 1/2) and now doesn't plan to until next fall--then it's a year of driving with her parents before she can drive on her own. I just don't have the room for an extra car, especially since my wife is agitating for a 300TD (nor do I want to pay the extra insurance, licensing, etc. for another year and a half on an unused car). (I'm also thinking my daughter might prefer a 190D, when the time comes.) Goldilocks is an 85 300CD, 188K miles, thoroughly maintained. I'm the second owner--bought her in Pensacola Florida from the MB dealer 5 years ago--she was a trade-in on an E300D. Everything works. It feels like the AC could use a re-charge, and the Cruise was doing a little surging on the way home from the storage barn. Also, it appears I developed a vacuum leak somewhere, since I can't lock the doors after the car has been shut off for a couple hours. I suspect the leak is in the heater controls behind the dash--I can hear something there--but I haven't tracked it down. She could use a good italian tune-up. Interior is good, though the seats could use a re-cover or sheepskins. No dash cracks. Becker radio is good. Body is good. One small rust spot on the seam between the front left fender and the front end, which I cleaned and primed (but not repainted). Paint is good, but not great (a good detailing might be all that's needed). PO put tinting on the windows, and those stainless rim thingies around the wheel wells. All work has always been done as needed immediately. New alternator, new battery just before storing her, for example. (Couldn't believe how she started--I hooked up the battery, did two glow-cycles, and she fired on the first crank--after sitting for 17 months.) Michelin X-ones have maybe 50-60% of life left in them. Been running Delvac1 for the last 30K miles. This is a lovely car, and I would like to be sure someone gets it who will take care of it. I'll probably advertise it for $5500, but will sell it to anyone on this list for $5000 before she goes on Autotrader or E-Bay. I'll get some digital photos tomorrow (if it quits raining). If anyone wants to see them, please e-mail me off-list. Ron Dwelle ron@dwellegroup.net 1982 240D the Grey Ghost 1985 300CD Goldilocks |
