This is a two owner 71745 Kilometer(44580 mile) 4 speed rust free rock solid 230SL with a superb run and drive! The original notches in the front fenders that are seldom still intact are there. The factory spot wields are still intact. This is a very clean, straight, low mileage example that looks and drives as nice as the pictures reflect. The wood is in good condition, the seats, door panels, and carpets are all in good condition. The gauges all work as designed and are clean and crisp. The side windows have an after market electrical system that is in working order. The chrome is in excellent condition. The car shows no signs of rust history or accident history. The car was brought to the states in the very early 80's by a German University Professor in Austin Texas and maintained by the local Mercedes shop. I had one of these "California" SLs many years ago.

As a convertible junkie, I like to drive with the top down whenever I can.

The lack of a portable canvas top, meant you had to plan you topless journey very carefully, lest you get caught out in the rain.
Might work in California, but not so much in anyplace where it rains.

I much prefer the soft top, if I have to choose between one or the other.
Plus, my roadsters that have hardtops, never seem to get them mounted. They just take up space in the garage......
