I am the 3rd owner of this 1979 300SD. The second owner had it from around 1990 to 2004, when I bought it. I used it heavily for about 2 years, and probably put about 20,000 miles on it. The speedometer cable broke on it shortly after I got it, but it is fixed now. It has been in storage for about 7-8 years, as I was planning on restoring it. It is a Virginia car and has some rust in the rockers, and bottom of the drivers side fender, as well as the back by the License plate. The second owner invested heavily in the car. Putting in the Aluminum servo, a new AC compressor, some diaphragms for the locks, and many other new parts. I put in new glow plugs, and a new glow plug controller.
The car is very reliable, serving me as a daily driver for just over 2 years, until I was interested in another. It could be a daily driver as is, you could restore it, or experiment with alternative fuels.
What it needs: Drivers side window regulator. (Motor works, and you can lower the window, but closing it is hard) AC condenser, and the climate control amp. (allows you to turn on the AC if you restore it’s operation)
I am including a few salvage yard parts: An AC condenser, and the metal panel around the License plate. Also, a new fuel filter, and a new oil filter are in the trunk. The original radio, and another period correct radio are also included, as well as the mileage log from the second owner, and the owners manual.

I am asking $2,000, but am negotiable.

Nice car. I remember test driving a 1979 300SD at Wood Motors in Detroit back in the fall of 1991. I was a high school senior at the time. The car was brown and had been traded in for a new S-class. It had maybe 115,000 miles on it. The dealership wanted $7900. That was too expensive for me at 16 years old. I'd be tempted by recently bought an old 240D.

Crap, Crap, Crap!!! I WANT! But I must spring my TDI from the mechanic (big $$$ repair) and funds will be limited after that. I love the W116's and I want one in every color. I don't have a handsome grey one like this. Best luck with the sale. I'll keep checking back just in case I come into more funds. Oh, where in WI are you located?
