2003 sl55 convertible for sale

This was my parents car. They kept it garaged at the lake house. Has rarely left the blue ridge mtns. They did take it on a 5000 mile trip a few years ago to sturgis, Oregon , Cali, Arizona and back to ga. It has ZERO issues. Maintained with an open checkbook. Right now I am seriously pissed off because they did NOT tell me they were trading it in. I am just sick. But here it is.....I will tell you they got $14000 on trade so probably some room for negotiation. I drove the car in May of this year and could still do smokey burn outs. Ha

Why would they trade in a car like that for $14k that is terrible and why I rarely deal with dealers.

Oh I have been blistering mad about this. Just goes to show how much markup are in SOME used cars on dealer lots. I think it was done on purpose to keep me uninvolved. Yes terrible terrible trade in. They actually traded in a cream puff 2003 expedition as well. My folks won't even tell me what they got for it after I exploded about the SL!

I'm not seeing the problem here. The Ford dealer has the car priced right. It's worth about $20K considering the year and miles. A $5K spread between trade-in and retail is normal. So they left $1k on the table. Big deal. Are you really mad because you no longer have a free SL55 to drive. I do like that M113K motor, have owned a couple of cars with it.

I'm only mad because I could have sold it for the correct price... They should have never traded in an old amg car. Unfortunately I only see my folks a few times a year. I think I have only Driven the car 5 times. Oh well. Hope it finds a good home.

I take it that your parents didn't want to have the hassle of selling a car. Nor did they want you to have the hassle. If they were able to maintain the car with an "open checkbook" then by no means are they suffering financially. That said, they are helping the local economy going by paying a used car salesman to weed through the tire kickers and joy-ride test drivers.

Now I would be pissed, if I expressed an interest in the car before they sold it, saying something like, let me know before you sell this, and IF I could afford it, and they didn't tell me, then I would be pissed.

If you did tell them you wanted it, then go to the dealership, offer them $18K cash and take it for a test drive to visit your folks,,,

Depends how hard they negotiated the price of the new vehicle. If they got 3-4k off the generals in grate then they made out well by using the trade as a punching bag. 20k is about the going rate of those things, seems like a fair sale price.
