1965 220SEb/C
SOLD to the lucky gentleman collector from Sausilito....THANK YOU! A true “Barn Find”…this classic W111 2 door coupe was bought in an estate sale in 2005 and the car has not been on the road since that time. At some point original owner converted engine to a 1968 280SL 2.8L M130 (170 HSP) Serial # 130-983-10-002362.
Although records are scanty, it appears he developed cam problems and purchased new cam towers that came with the car when I purchased it(old ones also available for inspection). At some point the cam was removed from the car and went missing over the years. The engine and associated parts are with the car….only the cam and head bolts are gone. So here she sits waiting for a new owner to get her going again. The car is intact, no rust, looks like original paint, sunroof, AC, floorshift 4 speed MT, good interior. Tires are good, but 12 years old. This is a very nice car, couple of minor bumps but nothing major whatsoever. As it sits $11,000 or best reasonable offer for this nice classic. Car is located in Northern California (Sacramento area). Last edited by fredmo1947; 09-13-2015 at 09:38 PM. Reason: pictures |

Go thru the ownership of the car for me again. This is what I gathered...rightly or wrongly...from your write up.
There was an original owner. Second owner bot the car from the original owner's estate around 2005. You then bot the car from the second owner, making you the third owner? Or did you buy the car from the estate in 2005 making you the second owner? Followup question. How did you arrive at your price? Thanks. And a P.S. Clean title?

If anyone buys this I have an almost new cam, towers and rockers surplus. We purchased a rusted out m130 engine carborated car for parts. I was surprised when taking the rocker cover off that all these parts where obviously almost new.
Back In the day many first cam lobes failed on these camshafts. I always assumed in manufacturing the cams the front lobe of the cam was softer. It may have just been an oiling design problem though. When I say almost new I mean those parts look completely new compared to any I have ever seen before when working on those engines. If Mercedes still supplies them new you probably would not like the prices at all. Same cam carb or fuel injected? Easy to check. I suspect the same just not sure. |
