I want to trade my minivan for a 300D Wagon.
Its a 2001 Honda Odyssey with 96000 miles. Front wheel drive.
Good looking and running van. has a 3rd row seat and a/c and a good radio with bluetooth speakerphone. Not smelly. Needs nothing. Gets good gas mileage if you are light on the pedal. IS there any interest? email me at chrisarnt@hotmail.com Here is the link to my CL ad. 2001 Honda Odyssey 96,000 miles. Inspected til Dec 2016 |

Are you prepared to do a whole lotta more maintenance than the van requires? It will also have a good deal less interior space, and no sliding doors....
300TD in good shape hard to find...especially of you want the newer w124 Just a warning

Maybe for a 124 gasser, but not the 123. I got diesel fever! But realistically I will have to get rid of the 124 sooner or later. It's too good a car to not be the daily driver it's been for 34 years. it's the one in my avatar and in the photo album if you'd like to take a peek...

Really? A 300TD wagon will have just as much if not more work then a w124....you've got the SLS to worry about...Along with everything else....I would stick with the mini van

He lives in NJ with salted roads, that van will hold up WAY better than a W123 in those conditions. I've watched first hand what salty winters do to the W123 and W126. I love the diesels but I am realistic especially when it comes to winter. My W201 190d is the bare minimum vehicle I will subject to snow anymore, starts better when its super cold, a bit more rust resistant, and the HVAC is far stronger.
In defense of the older diesels, my 2013 VW TDI actually had even less heat in the winter despite its electric aux heater, it was not fun in that car when starting off at -10F, it would start right up but zero heat to defrost anything.

For people who don't know, the transmissions in these vans were notoriously bad. Any 98-02 Honda V6 is going to have a very high chance of transmission failure way before it should.

I knew they had done goodwill replacements and an extended transmission warranty but I bet that stuff is expired by now...

The transmission on our 02 Odyssey went out at 38k miles....replaced and running perfectly at 195k miles. It was an issue with the torque converter but they replaced the whole thing. IIRC they extended the transmission warranty to 100k miles....but I may be mistaken.

Guess I'm just a glutton for punishment then... I feel like Mr. Fancy Pants when I drive my 124 any more. I might end up keeping both. But then there's the Jeep...

Ok. I'm back.
I got rid of my beloved 81 300d midnight blue with black interior, in order to get one of two Honda minivans. I got these to schlep my kids and all the crap my soon to be ex wife made me buy and carry around. Now I am separated and don't want to drive this soccer Van anymore. Granted, it is nice to be able to hit the New York thruway at 90 miles per hour in complete silence in the lower half of tachometer. So, I know both cars. 1st point is that if you have a Honda with a v6 use Amsoil synthetic trans fluid and change it every 15,000 miles. The amsoil can tolerate twice the heat of regular fluid and changing it costs $20 and takes 15 minutes. 2nd point is that if you live in the northeast and don't want your Mercedes to become a rust bucket you need to spray out your wheel wells with a hose after it gets a good dose of salt. You can do this at one of those do it yourself car washes. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I also spray the underside with the wax setting. Once a year I buy a large can of wd-40 and spray the wells and suspension and any parts that already have rust on them. I'm not really interested in a gasser unless it's a show car. The head problems and so forth... As far as the sls I would just get some two stage springs installed like we did on the old grand marquis. But, I don't know if the wagon is as sexy as the sedan. I want the wagon so I can haul stuff when I do renovations and the third row seat would come in handy. |

Usually if the trans was gonna go due to the 'issue' it would have gone by now. The first odyssey I bought with a blown transmission. Before replacing it I tried adding trans cooler, magnetic filter and a full swap to amsoil redcap. I drove it like that for 68,000 miles. The timing belt skipped a tooth because I let the oil get too low and it bent all the valves. But that was my fault and I liked the vehicle enough to buy the same year and model. I really like that I can fit a full 4x8 sheet of plywood or Sheetrock in the back. |
