Thumbs up FS: 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 Wagon, Somerset NJ, 165k, $4500

1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 Wagon
Smoke Silver (9702) w/ Parchment interior

Overview
  • 165,xxx miles
  • ABS
  • ASR (Traction control) (Optional Extra)
  • Heated Front Seats (Optional Extra)
  • Seats 7 (Standard 3rd Row Seat)
  • Self-leveling hydropneumatic rear suspension
  • Newer 16" Mercedes-Benz wheels & tires
  • AutoCheck
  • Digital copy of recent receipts
  • Front window rain guards
  • NJ Inspection good for two years

The Good

Transmission and brakes were fully refurbished on 4/16/12. Engine fires up strong, every time and is quiet. Newer Mercedes-Benz wheels and tires. A/C and heat work brilliantly with no leaks in the system. Rear self-leveling suspension also works flawlessly.

The Bad

Surface rust. Around the rear quarter panel and a few other places (see photos). There would appear to be some bondo around the gas tank. I don't have the cargo roller cover that originally came with the vehicle. Front bumper lower valance has a piece missing, nothing functional. I had planed on replacing the head unit but never got around to it. I am sure it doesn't work, they were known to fail. Replace it with $100 head unit and you're good to go.

Car Specifications
Everything on this list is working
  • Dual air bags
  • ABS brakes with ASR (Traction Control)
  • Self leveling rear suspension
  • Rear wiper
  • Power windows
  • Power front seats
  • Power central locking
  • Heated front seats
  • Power steering and brakes
  • Automatic transmission
  • Air conditioning
  • Auto climate control
  • Intermittent wipers (Front and Rear)
  • Integrated fog lights
  • Four-wheel disc brakes
  • Cruise control
  • Flat folding, split rear seats
  • Third row seating
  • Self latching hatch

I haven't been using the car much so it's time it goes to a good home. The car is very reliable and drives with appreciable confidence. It's been getting full synthetic oil changes and has only seen 93 octane in my hands.

Cash only!

Did the maths. Less than 20k on the rebuilt transmission.

'tis a spitting image of my '95 E320 wagon (except for the rust ) and we have the same taste in wheels!!
Unless your camera has a severe color shift, I believe the interior shade is "Parchment", not tan.
Some call it Beige, I've heard it called Mushroom too, but actual MB Tan is darker in my experience and almost yellow brown.
I think the smoke silver and parchment combo was a standard item out of Germany. It does show any dirt really badly (I would much rather have the Tobacco brown aka Tabak, as used in my '79 wagon).
I am getting a lot of local use out of my (new to me) '95 wagon and I'm planning a trip next Spring. AC is great and the ride is perfect!

I do love me a good E320 wagon. The rust is disheartening but I am sure the next owner will take care of it. I believe you are correct, it is parchment! Duh Frank! I appreciate your insight and I do know the darker 'tan' you are referring to. I am off to update my post here. We're going to AC in December, enjoy your spring trip!

I see your wagon still FS

well, Frank I've been really busy with things lately
I am using a borrowed computer now and hate it!
Whatever Microsoft says about being able to revert from Windows 10 back to the original O.S. don't you believe it! that didn't work for me and i have to reload the drivers on my laptop and a new O.S. fortunately I had backed up all files. The Acronis image failed to load for some reason thats a pisser too.
Anyhow my '99 was hit in the rear a couple weeks ago by a drunk, it managed to bring me close to the brink of having a total wagon thanks to Farmers Insurance Group I fought the adjuster and had to yell at him to keep it under what he had as a limit. They wouldn't tell me the limit though, saying its not Kelly BB. I believe his total loss limit was somewhere under $2500.
I pointed out 124 wagons bring more money on the W coast and pointed out my car was nearly perfect with a new suspension and exhaust system, which he ignored saying that didn't figure into the value of my car. I despise insurance adjusters and I let him know it. So the car is still in the shop, a high quality place affiliated with the MB dealership, and the fellow really tried to get me to consider another shop, duh I wonder why!?

I own no computer with Windows on it anymore. I have two running OSX, two running Linux. Doing IT for many years and dealing with Windows, I am sure your story is sound. I wouldn't doubt it. Sorry to hear about your Arconis image failure -- that is odd. I haven't heard of them failing before. I have Dropbox for certain off-site backup and a NAS in the basement with RAID5, 3 6TB Hard drives, and VPN. Beautiful setup.

Sorry to hear about your wagon. Ironically being the internet I would have figured someone would have made an offer at this point on mine. No big deal. I am going to put some more miles on it to work for the next week or so.

Pentax K-r with a Metz mecablitz 58 AF-2 Digital Flash. I want people to really know what they are getting. This car is going to be my daily driver for the week. It is comfort on a level I feel one does not get in newer luxury cars.

I have actually been driving this car a little more lately. What a pleasure. They really just don't build them like they used to! Tempted to pop a head unit in and keep her. These W124's are like tanks. Happy New Year everyone!

if you don't desperately need the money it's kind of a nice fall-back to be able to keep and drive such great cars

Yes and that is why I have had two W124's for some time now.

Definitely keep her, Frank! Pick up one of the TrafficPros or equivalents, those are plug & play and give you in-dash CD capability. Pretty nice improvement in sound quality, even with stock speakers/amp.

I am a spoiled technologist. Most car stereos I am interested in can connect to my phone, preferably through bluetooth, for streaming services. I will need a new head unit for this vehicle though as the amp seems fried on the stock one. Common issue from what I am reading. What is this TrafficPro you speak of? Google is a mess with that name. Maybe shoot me a PM link.
