1977 240D - Manual Transmission - $6k OBO

Photo folder: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9oq489a9hj1ynea/AABD8N3zKQO7PZ9CL8bbpoP9a?dl=0

Selling my beautiful 240D reluctantly. My wife has trouble drive it because she is so short, and the clutch pedal is rather long. I'm 6’, and it's no issue for me, but happy wife, happy life (so they say.) We're getting a new car, and having two cars is not an option for us, sadly.

1977 is the inaugural year of the W123 body style, complete with the legendary unstoppable diesel engine. This car has a manual transmission, and is generally less common than automatics. Because it’s a manual, it’s got a lot more pick up and go than its Automatic cousins. The body paint color is called Medium Red.

Quick Overview of Car:
Mechanical: 5/5
Body: 2/5

Great Mechanical Condition
Starts easily, even in Chicago winters, does not burn oil. Compression is great. Has a working automatic sunroof. Slow & Steady is the drive in this car. Suspension is smooth and solid, like riding a cloud. I drove it to South Dakota from Chicago and back (1800 miles) and from Chicago to South Carolina (950 miles) this summer with no issue. The longer it drives the faster it wants to go. Coming through the mountains in North Carolina she handled the curves beautifully. The car is very balanced and solid.

Body Needs Work
The body was repainted and resealed in 2010. No water leaks. Window rubbers in excellent condition. Unfortunately, the floor beneath the drivers seat needs to be replaced. This is a recent development, and likely due to the car spending most of it's life in Pennsylvania. The bottom of the car was Ziebarted back in the 80s, unfortunately it was ineffective in preventing future deterioration.

I had a local auto body shop (Singletons, Charleston SC) quote a new floor, and I plan to have this repair done this Winter unless you are interested in it as is. I will raise the price accordingly after the work is completed.

This is not the end of the road for this car by any means. The rest of the body is in excellent condition, with very minor spots in the usual places.

Work I've Done
In my short time with this wonderful car, I've had a lot of upkeep maintenance done, at one of Chicago's most respected import garages, Midwest Performance. Call and ask for Jonathan, he knows this 240D well. This is a summary of the work:

• new front brake calipers + brake lines (nov 2015)
• new rear tires (nov 2015)
• new master cylinder for brakes (oct 2015)
• all four glow plugs replaced (aug 2015)
• new alternator (july 2015)
• new battery (july 2015)
• AC upgraded to R134a (july 2015) (York compressor needs new clutch)
• muffler downpipe + flex joint replaced (may 2015)
• both front tires (jan 2015)
• left headlight replaced (may 2015)
• all belts replaced (dec 2014)
• gear shifting bushings replaced (dec 2014)

Car's History
I am the third owner of this car, it was originally brought from Stuttgart by a police offer in Pennsylvania. It spent most of its life there, and was kept up rather well. After that it lived in Milwaukee and Chicago, and now resides in Charleston, South Carolina. I have all the original records, down to the original receipt and the manufacturer’s dog tag. I have kept all the receipts from the work I’ve had completed in my ownership as well.

Clean title, ready for a test drive.

Looks nice, but I'm afraid that with the rotting floors, your asking price is at least triple what it should be...

Whats the mileage?

Times 2 molecularpinata

6k is a no rust, low mileage, perfect shape everything working price for a 123. They are great cars but they just arent worth that much money in normal condition.
Driver side is rusty its guaranteed passenger side isnt far behind.
