Alright, after almost a year of fighting with this 300SD, I'm going to have to let her go. The transmission just went out yesterday and I don't have time to deal with finding a new one to put in. It stays in park and will shift to reverse & neutral but can't seem to get it out of neutral.
Other than that it has been running well. It always starts right up. We replaced the rear shocks, sway bar links, and driver rear control arm & bushings. In the past 11 months, we've replaced the vacuum pump, front ball bearings, engine mounts, oil cooler lines, fuel primer pump and probably a few more things that I can't think of. We put a lot of love into this car, but I think it's time to move on.
Onto the bad:
- The car is rusty. That's the only reason I don't think this would be a great candidate for a restoration.
- The exhaust was completely removed before I got the car. The car still runs, and surprisingly isn't much louder than any other diesel I've owned.
- The trunk leaks when it rains. It's not a terrible leak, but its a bit of trouble.
- The interior isn't in great shape. dash doesn't have any cracks though...
- The Odometer stopped at 148580 with the last owner, I would guess that this car still has under 180K on it though.
