Hi-
I am no expert, but I don't think MB made a 3L diesel back then. I was under the impression that they did 190Ds in the 50s, 200Ds in the 60s, and it wasn't until the 70s when a 3L diesel came along.

The link below is nice because it goes through all the models and specs for those models:

He talking about a 300(lowercase)d Adenauer. Not diesel.

He's also barking up entirely the wrong tree on this forum looking for Pagodas and Adenauers. This is primarily a diesel DIY forum for mid 80s cars.

Those are hard to find. Setting a specific date might make it difficult. I did see one around here recently I think they wanted 60k. It was perfect looking. Projects are harder to find because they are now worth enough to restore and maybe see a good financial return.

Haha, thanks for clearing that up. I didn't know about those cars, so it is always great to learn something new about older MB cars.

Good luck to the OP finding a car for his grandfather. What a nice thing to do.

The 300 series big cars were made from 1952-1962

They were called 300b 300c 300d AKAQ W189

They all had the same 3.0L gas engine (M189) which was the largest car engine that the Allies allowed Germany to make for the 20 years after the end of hostilities. That's why there were no V8 s B enzes after the war until 1965 or soo, with the 300 SE bodies ands bigger engines.

The 300 b and 300c came in MT 4 door sedans and I believe also a 2 door coupe sub-type.

The 300d which was built from 1959-62 was a four-door designed to be the Rolls-eater and was well-liked but under powered. They had a GM three-speed AT made in Pontiac, Michigtan by GM Truck and bus, then refined in Germany.Konrad Adenauer took JFK around in his personal car in 1963,

I owned two of these monstrous beauties, and they are a lot of fun, but need money. Expe3ct to buy a good restored one for 35-50K, or a money pit for 5-8K.

You may want to consider a old-style 220, which you might be able to buy through the 170-220 group at 170220 FORUM - Index. They look similar.
I have Groucho Marx’s old 1952 220 which is one of my retirement projects.

Good luck!
