WTB: '05 or '06 E320 CDI

I am in the market for a CDI. I prefer any color but Black or silver. White or Blue would be great, or even Smoke Silver would be fine. All that are available around here (So. Cal.) are black or silver. I don't mind traveling, as long I can get the desired color at a price I can afford, and it be rust free (yes we are spoiled here in Cali!)...Rich

Too bad you don't like black. There's a perfect black on black here in RI, 190k miles, very well optioned, complete service records that can be had for $7k. I would have already bought it if I didn't have one.

When I think of a luxury Mercedes-Benz, I think of all black-that is the quintessential luxury car color. However, I live in the desert, and black is too hot during the summer. It is also hard to keep clean with the dust blowing in the wind. I do have a garage space for the car I will get, and I will only drive it for pleasure/travel. I have other cars that stay outside (a beater 240 and Mitsubishi Diesel pickup). The price is very tempting, but the fact that I desire a lighter color, and that car is half way around the world from where I am, I will pass. I am trying to be patient, as I am sure a white or blue one will show up and I will be ready with cash in hand to snatch it up. However, there is a nice blue one in Texas, and I am willing to travel for the right car. We shall see how it goes.....Rich

That R.I. car has already been exposed to over 10 years of road salt. Even if there is no rust showing yet, there's still going to be hidden issues with that. Now, and in the future. Even just doing simple stuff becomes a nightmare because of rusty bolts.

Rich,
I need to travel to Texas sometime in the next few months. Maybe we can carpool? You can hitch a ride with me and help pay for fuel? Maybe even do some of the driving so that we can drive straight through? What do you think?

Better be careful and not wait too long on that blue one because there is another board member looking for these cars and IIRC he's already in Texas!

Thanks for the info. The guy in TX with the blue one won't budge on the price. I don't have that much $ to spend, much less to get there and fuel to drive back.

You've not related the price you're willing to pay for one.
What's your maximum dollar budget?
What are the miles you expect on the car for that max. dollar?

Well obviously I would like to pay as little as possible for a car the desired color, and with the least amount of miles. I have found many silver or black cars at between 6 & 10K, and I would have one already if I wanted one of those colors. If I could get an '06 in blue or white with a light color interior for around 7K with less than 150K on the odo, I would be very happy. I have seen a few silver '07-'08 E320's with the V6 for less than 9K. I would rather have the CDI, even if I have to spend up to 9K. I also have to factor in travel expenses in my budget. So to answer your question, no more than 9K total with 150K or less.......Rich

I see.

I'm not that picky on color combo/options.

My focus on buying more 05/06 E320 CDIs, is; miles/condition/records-VMI/price, in that order of importance.

The lower the miles, the better the condition, the greater the value is to me. Of course with records & Carfax.

For me, it becomes difficult to quantify the value (I should pay) for higher mileage cars.

Of course there's value in higher mileage cars. They've many times experienced intensive maintenance and parts replacements. As long as everything works out-the-door, there's no reason not to buy a higher mileage car. With a verifiable record? So much the better.

Tyler860 bought a higher miles absolutely loaded up 05 CDI Designo for plenty of dollars (IMO) from the St. Louis, Missouri MB Dealer (Plaza??) a couple years ago. The car was a 1-owner Germany pick up with extensive records as I recall - in perfect condition.

There's a guy here on DD - Greg?? in Minnesota created a spread sheet thread to list and value higher mileage 05/06 CDIs, after his 1st purchase of one..

I can relate to the desire to avoid black cars. They really do get miserably hot!

I can also relate to what Joe is saying. You often times have to take what you can get, especially in this case. LOT'S of folks want these particular cars.

Personally, I would take any color, except black, but I too would hold out for a lower mile example.

But you have to act quickly Rich. Used cars in general start getting more expensive when people start getting their tax refund checks!

Joe, you are the board member that I was referring to in post #4. Are you in Texas? Please don't snatch up Rich's blue car! Please! I need a car pooler to Texas!

Eric, yes, I'm in Texas. I read your post earlier about a blue CDI in Texas, but I'm not aware of it. Unless it has low miles, I wouldn't be interested in it anyway.

The CDI in question is blue and has the black interior. The guy wants 12,XXX for it, and won't budge. He really likes the car (I have not heard of anyone disliking them), and will only sell it if he gets that high price. That is out of my budget, especially if I have to pay for a flight (or carpool), and the fuel to get back to CA. I think I will hold out for a white or blue one with the lighter interior. SRJ- you are welcome to look at the blue one and try to talk him down on the price. I will find the link.....Rich

Unless that blue CDI is in unusually pristine condition and low miles, it is overpriced.

BTW unless I'm mistaken that CDI in Mansfield has been up on CL for a LONG time....I know because my daughter lives in Dallas so I often look at the DFW CL to see what's available.
