WTB: 190D 2.5 in Ohio

Hi. I'm looking for a 190D 2.5 for a daily driver. I don't want to travel out of state to inspect/buy the car (I'm in central Ohio). Prefer a manual transmission, but not a requirement. Must be in good shape as I don't want to spend thousands of dollars or scores of hours fixing it up in the first few months of ownership.

Thanks!

Not a 2.5 but it is a stick and somewhat near you.

Hi Paul! Long time no see.

I drove that 2.2 a couple weeks ago. I was actually impressed at how "fast" it was. Met owner at a store parking lot, drive it up a freeway ramp onto US-33 and it wasn't frustratingly slow with two people in the car. I'm impressed what 65hp can do!

There's a nice low mileage 2.5 w/ 5-speed manual on CL in central NJ for $6k. Owner said he's only owned it since last fall, so makes one wonder why selling so soon.

You have any tips on determining a good car? Typical rust points that aren't obvious at first look? Expensive things to fix that one might assume are affordable? Lots of these cars are for sale in the 225,000 - 275,000 mile range. Should these higher mileage W201s be avoided like the plague if the intention is to use it as a daily driver at 300 - 400 miles per week?

Thanks.

I would say no, my 190d 2.2 has over 300k+ now and it runs like a top!
And I mainly run it on 90% wvo, if only ran on D2 I have a feeling these cars would last a lifetime with just basic maintenance..

i was going to post this up for you but i figured you didn't want to go across 2 states to pay all the money for one. if it checks out and you could get him to $4k i think it would be a good car

James - Yes, I found that one (see above "There's a nice low mileage 2.5 w/ 5-speed manual on CL in central NJ for $6k") and asked the seller a couple questions via e-mail. It is very tempting! Between the cost and trouble of having someone I trust arrange for, or perform, an independant inspection and then for me to travel out there for the purchase, it would cause me to work the price down. Plus, I'm not really crazy about the blue interior! Otherwise, it's exactly what I'm looking for. I've been searching around the country on CL in order to get pricing & condition comparisons. W201 diesel cars with a manual transmission are NOT common. Very few on eBay, AutoTrader, and even on M-B enthusiast web forums like this one.
