Question Window Tint

I have a 85sd that needs tinted I am tired of feeling like a ant under magnifying glass.

So went to one shop here in Des Moines Iowa and they said they couldn't do it something about the weather stripping being dirty from age that it would interfere with the film
At least we're up front about their limits so got a respect that.

I would like to here what some of you have done.
Should I attempt myself ?

Thanks John

I'd try a different shop. Or you can do it yourself if you have a ton of patience. I've done the rear window of pickup trucks but that's relatively easy because it's a big flat pane of glass. Doing all the windows of a 4 door would be a lot more hassle. Ever see a car with tinted windows where you can see a bunch of air bubbles? That was a DIY job.

ask the mod to move it to the proper forum and you might get more responses

2x....try another shop. I went to 3 before I found a guy that had done old Benzes. They're out there, you just have to find them. I found the guy I use on Craigslist.

Thanks. My second try yesterday was a bust. Have a referral for a guy but have to wait until Monday.

Watch out. Iowa has a restrictive standard for window tinting. I brought my car home to Iowa from my place in Nevada and got a ticket after I put Iowa plates on the car. Truly a stupid law. But there you go.

This might not be their limits, it might be because the door wipers are dirty / hard with age and will scratch the film after some up / down cycles.

Yeah that's what they said. But how do other cars like mine get it done? That's what I am trying to find out.
Seems like they also should have similar issue

I have a tint guy I have used for years. No matter what I've taken to him, old, new, previously tinted or not, he's done it and done it very, very well. he's not cheap, but he does amazing work.

I don't understand some of the things that these people have told you.

CA has laws for the amount of tinting but they seldom enforce it so you see a lot of sporty cars with Limo tint on all the windows.
A cop friend says they call those vehicles "cop magnets" because they catch a cops eye and if they aren't busy the CHP occasionally nabs the driver just to see if they have any outstanding warrants, etc.

Yeah I could see Ponch doing something like but here in Iowa require 70% in front.
So not looking for a lot but any tinting would be welcomed

Yep, there is a certain " I'm trouble / I'm a hole " attitude that goes along with drivers that have super dark tint and license plate hiders. There are a couple of retired state cops where I work and they have said the same thing.

Have a look at the parking lot of a muscle head gym and you will see lots of examples. Plus they will be double illegal parked to get a prime spot near the door.

Can you replace those rubbers with new, or better? They may very well be right, and the parts might well be cheap.

Good Question! I have seen new window brushs here on Pelican but don't know about the whole window track.

Seems like it would just be the inner felt or swiper at the top of the door panel? I sell those to Porsche guys constantly, cheap for them at least.
