Unhappy 79 300SD needs head gasket. W116 WORKING ACC SERVO, Brand New Tires

I babied this car for years. I purchased in FL in 2007 and only had 84k miles. Previous owner had babied it and spent way too much money on the thing. He had purchased a new remanufactured ACC Servo, had the transmission rebuilt, painted,,,,,. 3 years ago, the engine went and it sat in the Yuma AZ sun for 3 years until this spring when I shipped it off to San Diego to have a used engine put in it. I picked it up and drove it straight to the tire store and had 4 brand new tires put on it. The rims are original bundt design but I had them repainted about 5 years ago. Anyway, on my drive back to Yuma within 30 miles of the tire store the head gasket blew and I broke down. I've had it in storage since then and now want to sell it.

I'm looking for a buyer within 30 days. Let me know and write w any questions.

Silver paint (clear coat peeling), black leather interior.

I've never seen a 617 blow a head gasket. Unless it saw extreme heat. So are you sure it's the head gasket? Does the car overheat driving? I'm still interested. I drove a car home from Michigan (C36) with a bad head gasket so its not my first rodeo.

sorry was away on a business trip and not able to check your messages here. The car is still in San Diego. Jake, you bring up a good point about the head gasket. The previous owner told me that he had removed the thermostat "because you know how these engines are known for overheating".
I had never heard that before but what do I know.

Here's the post I started the night the engine died.

OM617 Overheated, then wouldn't start. Any ideas?

I have been assuming it was the head gasket but I actually don't know.

The engine I had put in the car had alot of miles well over 200k. It was only $300. I guess you get what you pay for. I had spent $400 to ship the car to an indy in Chula Vista who said he'd swap engines for $700. He was very late in having the car ready. When I picked it up, the brand new battery I had put into the car before I had it shipped to SD was missing and in it's place was an old battery half it
's size and certainly not for a diesel. Grease marks all over the fender walls. When the loss of coolant happened rust was all over the place under the hood and it was shooting out of the reserve coolant tank every time I tried to start it. I'm really very disgusted with the whole thing. I feel like there must have been a problem with the engine before I got to it.

Thanks for your interest.

This car is worth a lot of money in the next few years. A rare bird. Don't let it go. Put a motor in it amd save it. Not a lot of w116s left.
