190E help with price
I have a 1993 190E 2.3 with 117K miles that I purchased new. The automatic transmission is slipping in reverse, all forward gears function perfectly. The car has always been garaged and well maintained. If I sell it as a parts car, how much should I ask? I wouldn't hesitate to drive the car a long distance, just make sure you park where you can leave driving forward.
Thanks.

Have you thought about fixing it? To most people, parts car money is a few hundred dollars at most.

LOL at parts car man that thing is far too clean and a rare bird in that condition. How bad is the reverse? is it like a 2 second delay? they will go forever like that. I had a car that if I didn't gas it up to 1500rpm it wouldn't go into reverse. drove it like that 20k miles until I put a trans in it.
I'd suggest you fix the car. It's worth putting the money into it. you wont find one as clean as pictured. If you continue to decided to sell it, I'd say it's worth $1500. Also, try Trans-X by Lucas. It may help it a lot.

slk230red, why would you ever consider selling that pristine 190E? You should change the transmission fluid and filter every 60,000 miles, and I presume you know that. If a transmission fluid and filter change does not resolve the slipping in reverse I would have the transmission rebuilt. It seems odd that you would have transmission problems at such low mileage with a well-maintained vehicle like yours.

Beautiful car. Being a FL car, I'm almost certain its rust free. I'm definitely in the market for one, but I live in Baltimore, MD

But with already owning a 47 year old Corvette, maintaining one old car is enough. Even my 2001 SLK230 keeps me busy.

Don't list it as a parts car, you will get the " I'll take it off your hands for free " crowd. Listing it as owned since new carries some weight. I don't know the market for these cars but $ 1,000 + isn't high.
You need to find someone that is looking for that specific car rather than someone looking for a car. I would not be too quick to let prospective buyers see you have the Corvette as they might return some night. |
