98 E300D with 49,600 mi FS in Humble TX

Here's the car you wanted Eric!
Its not Black!
Its really low Mileage!
Near Houston TX.
But the asking price is $12K - ouch!
I hope they are flexible on price else need to find a rich Oilman that appreciates the car!

Yeah, that's a great find but that price is out of the question. As I stated in my first post, when you get above about $7,000, I'm thinking that a CDI may be the better deal. They get better fuel economy and they are way quicker. Low 15s vs. high 16s in the quarter. It's that direct injection that does the trick. It's the reason why the bigger V8 diesels of Ford and GM were so thoroughly spanked by the smaller 5.9 Dodge Cummins until they finally went to DI themselves. My big fear was/is reliability, but several board members here have told me that they love their CDIs and early Bluetecs.

In spite of everything I just said, I'd still get a low mile turbo W210 but not at that price. I would have gotten that white 99 for $8,000 that I linked but I was too late on that one.

It's a mystery why a car with so few miles has so many problems. Now I'm scared of CDIs again! What to do?

Probably seen little if any maintenance, and driven very hard.

Sorry about the lack of an update, but things are bad here again. I picked up the mystery CDI car (that I didn't want to talk about) from Arizona a week ago, came home to find a code enforcement red tag on my door. Seems my W124 lawn ornaments have gotten me in trouble again. So now I have big, big trouble in my life again. Code enforcement trouble is the worst! What a nightmare! It just makes me so angry! I swear the people in Russia have more freedom than we do! My vehicles don't cause noise, or stink, or flies. There's always at least one neighbor who has to be a bi!ch/prick. I sincerely hope karma gives them what they have coming. We are in negotiations right now to buy a place where I can do my thing in peace. Just gotta buy a little time.

I'll post pictures here of the newly christened Benzer12 when I can. Garage kept 06 CDI from Scottsdale, Ariz., been there it's whole life. $6,200, 133,000 miles, brand new brakes and SBC unit, so that issue has already been addressed. Rode the bus there and drove it home. Very beautiful car but I tried real hard not to let that sway me. There's lots to talk about with this car, both good and bad. All I know is B12 HAS to be reliable! Especially now! I already have enough on my plate, I can't handle any more trouble than I already have! We are a week into the relationship, so far so good. I'll start a new thread about this car as soon as I can and I will post a link here to it. I will also post pictures of the car in both threads. Also got to try to update my sig soon.

A big THANK YOU to all who helped me with this! Even if I didn't find any cars as the result of this thread, the info you all provided helped me to make an informed decision!

It is more a reflection on the owner, than the vehicle's design.

I've seen cars with 30k miles that needed a new engine, beyond repair. Huh, what do you mean "change the oil" i thought these were maintenance free?

Car manufacturers have put computers onboard that alert one to the need for maintenance but some drivers ignore the display.
Then there are a few shirtsleeve mechanics who F**k up their cars!

I got to know the parts manager at the local MB dealer who told me they had this customer who had a head crack or warp something like that. He was telling me they collected aluminum heads in a stack like cordwood until it was three feet high then they called in a scrap dealer.
In this case the owner lost the head on a new car bought at the dealer less than a year after he bought it.
The dealer figured it was an isolated event and it was covered under warranty.
A few months later he had the car towed in and again, a bad head.
The service manager refused to warrant the engine after they asked the owner if he was performing his own service, he said yes.

He said the car would overheat on the highway but was ok around town so he kept driving it intermittently.
After questioning him on whether he replaced the coolant he said yes but he used coolant bought from the dealer.
The only problem was he used it at 100%, he said he thought a little water might be a bad thing so he just used pure coolant!
Sadly there are a few people like that in the world!

99 E300D 149.5K mi $5500 Palos Verdes CA

FWIW. no relation to me.
"Beautiful silver 1999 Mercedes Benz E300 Turbodiesel. With the exception of a few small dents, in very good condition, inside and out. At 149,500 miles, mileage is quite low for a diesel of this age. Leather interior and sunroof. Recently smogged, with new windshield, tires, and EGR valve. Runs smoothly and handles comfortably. This car has been well-maintained and garaged."
