Looking for a 240D or 300D non turbo for my daughter to drive around town. Hoping for 150k - 200k automatic but manual will do.

300D

Hi,

I would really recommend a W123 300D turbo over a non turbo for your daughter for some of the following reasons. First of all, I am nineteen, so I have some first hand advise as a teen driver.

Sometimes teens pull out too late and they need the power to accelerate out of the way. If I have my airconditioning on my W123 turbo diesel, somtimes I cant even get out of the way. Dont get me wrong, but 240Ds, and 300D non turbo are fantastic cars and they last forever, but I think for a young driver, a turbo is necessary.

My brothers both have W124 turbo diesels, and those will get you introuble because they are pretty fast. My brother got a ticket in his. They are pretty fast.

My W123 gets better fuel economy however. I just would hate to see her get rearended because eventhough it wouldnt be her fault most of the time your insurance will still go up.

I have a W123, 1982 300D turbo sedan, but the engine is blown up. If you are intrested let me know.

Bottomline, maybe she should learn on a faster car until she is about 17, then she could probably handle a nonturbo, but I would get a stick if it is nonturbo, I am sure you can teach her. Most girls are actually better at manauls. THere is a thread on it too.

Good luck, if you have other questions, just ask,

Austin

I would really like to hear more details such as the mileage and what the deal is with numerous clutch replacements.

Second, since I value your opinion can the dealer ship it to North Carolina? About how much? Should be less than $1000 to match prices of 240's here.

Bill, if Chris decides not to pursue this one, would you be willing to do the same fly/drive run up to Park City (just outside Salt Lake)?
