E-Bay '85 300D with 25K mi. ??!!!

Here

If it's really as good as it sounds, I'd pay 5 grand for a 25Kmi. 300D personally.

I don't think it's got 25K.

Turbodeisel,
Why not? The interior looks very nice, specially the wood. They claim to have a full service history, which would be hard to fake.

According to the ad, this car is near Scranton, PA. So, if anyone in that local area wants to confirm it's condition for us here, that would be nice. I'm not interested in buying it (I would be 6 months from now!), so don't go out of your way for me personally.

1. Needles are not orange enough.
2. There is a crack in the clearcoat on the ashtray
3. Engine is way too dirty
4. The interior has a small amount of wear.

It certianly looks like a low mileage car, but I dont think that low.

ja...the two things that had me wondering was the dirty engine bay and the floor wear on the drivers side...WAY too much for only 25K mi. but I guess it IS possible.

You've got to remember, just because a car has low miles, doesn't mean it won't age..

I think the car *could* have 25K. What looks like a crack in the ashtray I think is a reflection from the gear selector. The trunk looks unused, as do the spare, jack, and toolkit. The needles look pretty orange to me, but I've got 151K on mine..

I do wonder about the driver's floormat, but again, they do age, and the color on the original floormats seems to fade a lot more than the newer style ones.

Did it sit outside? Was it properly stored when not in use? The engine looks dusty, but it doesn't look excessively oil-soaked or anything like that. If you look close, the gold-ish protective coatings still appear to be present on the steel fittings, not worn-off like on most. If you don't detail your engine for 15K miles and 17 years, it will probably look like this, too.

All that said, I'd still be concerned. t's in nice shape, but I think I'd rather have a car that has had moderate, gentle use and kept all the moving parts lubricated over its life. This car may have low miles but not be the bargain that people might hope if it has not been properly kept. Dry seals can make the ownership experience a *huge* headache. I have been there.

Then again, maybe the odometer was just disconnected for the last +/- 80K.

My $0.02.

The combination of the service records and a Carfax report should tell the tale.

I think it has the miles it says because I left my 300D parts car outside for 1 month during the monsoon season and it had dirt all over the engine, so if someone left it outside for a month it would be like that. I think they are orange enough because it doesnt have tint, so one month outside would cook the inside you know.

A few months ago I bought a 1977 300d from the husband of the original owner (she had died). It had 55,000 miles on it. I have every reason to believe that mileage is accurate since there were records with the car. However, the floormat on the drivers side where your heel rests while on the accelerator was completely worn through. I don't know how to account for that. Perhaps she wore high heels.

I guess I am missing the point here...no matter how low the mileage is ..it is still an 85 300D...something that will not appreciate with time....like perhaps an SL.......other than the low mileage and cleanliness what;s the big deal.....sure you could drive it for several years..but..its missing several safety features of newer cars and also is not very refined as compared to newer models..(124,210)....reminds me that I saw a 1990 420SEL with 7,000 miles about 3 years ago at the dealer...they were asking 30,000 for it...needless to say..it say there for many months..not sure if they ended up wholesaling it or not

I think this has sucker written all over it.

1. First of all the dealer says the car has never seen rain, if thats true there's no way the engine would be that dirty even if was left outside.
2. Second the dealer is saying those are leather seats but to be honest they look more like MB Text to me. Everyone knows that MB Text will look and feel new much much longer than leather.
3. I also noticed the seller is stating that it is a 8 cylinder, didn't know MB Made Diesel 8 Cylinders that would fit the 123. Looks more like a 5 cylinder to me.
4. Also states that there are power seats but in one pic I see a manual adjustment for the seat?

And finally I would agree with most of you in that the car costs way way too much in it's current condition. At 25K that car should be a total cream puff and if it did sit outside for that long I would bet that all the door seals, plastic/rubber trim are beat up and need replacing.

Sounds too good to be true and it probably is.
