Question Help with selling my 81 300 SD

Dear Posters,

Please help me with pricing for my 81 300 SD.

It is teal green with leather palamino interior.
It has 153,000 miles on it.
All records from 1-97
It was a one owner when I purchased it, and then I sold it---the man I sold it to lost the original owners books and records. He kept his personal records as it pertained to the vehicle and gave them back to me when I repurchased the car last year. I kept all my records from 1997-present.

Here is a list of what it needs.

---New paint. The body has never been wrecked, although the clear coat is fading on the trunk and the top of the cabin. The only rust I can find is a small section on the driver's quarter panel.

---Door lock. The car will unlock on the driver's side--but can't be locked with the key.

---Auto antenna does not work.

---Carpet for the trunk.

---Cruise control works sporadically.

---Passenger seat switch doesn't work.

---One worn hole on driver's seat, on the bolster.

---One loose seam on passenger seat. Other than that the passenger seat is very nice. I'm guessing about $50 to repair the passenger seat.

---Wood has the normal age cracks. The worst is probably the center wood around the shifter.

What works?

---AC blows nice and cold. I just recently had the AC repaired. Converted to FREEZE 12.

---All windows work. Had the motor replaced on driver's side.

---Aftermarket CD player.

---Back seat interior in great shape.

---This car does not smoke. It does leak a small amount of oil at the rear seal. (Show me a MB that doesn't)

---The engine is extremely strong.

---The tires are Michelin Rainforce x4's, with about 1,000 miles on them.

---Had the MB dealership in Tulsa to fix any vacuum problems on the car. Paid $405 for this work in December of last year.

---Air blows correctly out of the assigned vents. Had the vacuum element for the center replaced last month.

---Has mats over the carpets. Carpets are in great shape.

---Sunroof works as it should.

---Tachometer and guages work.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall the worst feature of this car is the paint. I am guessing that a $600 paint job would make the car look pretty sharp. It has been a good car for me. I am attempting to sell it so that I may purchase a brand new car.

Pricing info

Dear Skloob,

I have seen several of the early 80's SD's in my area and they generally sell for around $4000.00.-----However, yours needs new paint and I don't know how much that might reduce the value of your car.

Everything else looks in line (wear and tear wise) for that year model. Kinda low on mileage though, that is a plus.

Is it a daily driver?--How often do you change the oil?--How many miles do you put on it yearly?

Thanks--TruckingSon
