Another friend is interested in seeking my help in selling his car. The car is in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I think he's looking at US$2-3k. No accidents I believe (can confirm later) car in excellent condition, always parked indoor.

Unless you can bring it to Iowa, I won' t be able to test drive it. I would like to see photos if possible.

If I were to purchase, we would have to arrange to have it shipped unless absolutely confident it would make a 2,000 mile drive.

Can you post the detail of what is necessary to bring a Canadian car to the US? Registration, taxes, insurance issues?

I think it largely depends on the state you are in. Many of my friends who buy from Canada did not even bother changing the speedometer (which would have costed around $500).

Depending on your state DMV, you may need to pay 2.9% duty on the transaction price but it's best if you check yourself.

From past experience, the easiest way is for your shipper to pick up the car on the US side..
