According to Carfax it's a 1982 and it has exceeded Mechanical Limit (mileage more than what the odo could indicate??)

Why would it be a Euro? VIN is definitely US.
I don't see a lot of 240Ds up close but I've never seen one with wood trim on the dash like this one has. Maybe it's a later model thing? Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

Why? becasue I did not think that they made the 240D in 1985, as the description stated.
And the bumpers looked a little short to my eye... but now I see. I do not know the difference between a US VIN and non-US. Didn't even think about the wood trim. My '83 has wood trim and even wood at the manual shifter console. (But then again , my '81 300TDT has wood trim on the dash, but plastic around the shifter)

Being a 240D owner of many years and knowing the ins and outs of this car (I still have the original option sheet...heated seats were available though I have never seen one with it, but it explains the extra switch spot on the console). Anyway, the w123 240D had the old style climate control from 1977-1980. From 1981, the new style came with a little roller to adjust temperature which was above the three knobs controlling the climate control (old style was a fourth knob for temp in the same place as the roller). 1981 saw wood only on the dash, and not on the climate control console at all. 1982-1983 were basically identical years, with wood on the dash as pictured on that car, and on the climate control and near the shifter. European models, even during those years, usually still did not have wood near the climate control. 1983 was the last year of US production, 1985 was last year in Europe, though I cant remember when the 240D was stopped in Europe for certain. The Europe version has much thinner bumpers with two oblong slots for the license plates on the front bumper. Also, the Euro versions had flat front headlights, those headlights are US only.

One more thing, dont forget, all US 300d models had the automatic climate control and had wood around that area always, while the 240D has a manual climate control which is why the wood only came there from 1982-1983, even though 1981 saw the updated manual climate control.
