paid..
We payed 19,899 for her in jan of 1998.. maybe a little high
with 129,000 miles but she was and still is Flawless..... We looked at several 2.5 turbos from 1990-1993 models... we saw a lot of crap out there and then my brothers friend a guy named Jaco Van Demehewer of Benz Hauz in Kingport Tennesee called him. Jaco is MB dealer who maintained the vehicle for several years from the prevouis owner who traded it Jaco then used the car himself for a year. long story short it was the history of the vehicle, the fact it was owned by an independant mb dealer and maintained by his techs plus the Mint condition and the records that jaco provided for me sealed the deal.. My brother owns 5 mercedes and Jaco services all of them ... I have continued to have the car maintained in a meticulous fashion from 2 seperate Mb dealers here in Jersey ... yeah she has 200 k on her... nothing for a diesel... I have the original sticker I think its like 44,200 or close to it.. she is for a diesel head.... not your ordinary person.... a must see.. of course if i get an offer we deem acceptable we will take it... I see a few 90 91 92 and 93 turbos on ebay daily i will certainly let you know when and what I get for her!! who owned the car before me so if i have to take her off the road.. so be it... |

that being said..yes I think you overpaid somewhat for the car..unless it was a starmark vehicle and that price included some dealer warranty...but I understand if its exactly what you were looking for..you gotta go for it...just don't expect it to be paid back when you sell trust me I have seen some vehicles...a 1996 E300 a few years ago...one owner..bought and serviced at one particular dealer...the owner even bought his new tires throught the dealer ..and yes this same dealer was asking a premium when they sold it...was I going to pay a 3-4K premium...no..because I know that same premium was going to be lost in resale AND I could find another one(I did) that I liked as well at a price I could live with Gotta love the internet!!! Will the 92 2.5d pass California emissions? I am struggling with my 500E's 15 mpg.

California doesn't have a diesel emissions test ... at least true for the older cars.

The 300D 2.5 turbo was never sold new in California. It could not pass California emissions tests when new. I'm not sure if you could buy a used one and then register it in California.
I paid 15K for my 91 300D 2.5 turbo about 2 years ago. It was in mint condition with 36K original miles. At the time I remember thinking it was about 2-3K over what I thought a typical 100K mileage car was going for - I thought the 2-3K was a fair amount to pay for 70K fewer miles than an average example. I looked at (and drove) 3 cars with 95K to 135K miles that were priced from 10 to 13K when I was in the looking for mine. I also drove a couple of high mileage W210 606 engine cars - they were about as fast as the 2.5 turbo - they are very nice cars. I think your problem is that not too many people are in the market for a used car with 200K miles on the clock - as a previous poster pointed out 95% of the people looking will pass on your car because of the mileage. I also think your price is 3-4K too high for the mileage - even if your car is in mint condition. Good luck - Tim |

I had no problem registering my '91 300D 2.5 federal version, brought in from out of state, in California.

We are getting a little (ok maybe alot) off topic here but according to the Illustrated Buyers guide to Mercedes-Benz (written by Frank Barrett) on page 178 the 300D 2.5 turbo was not available in California due to emission laws. Maybe Mr Barrett is mistaken. Tim |
