Very nice little car
My dad had the same car, but it was a ragtop, with a red interior.
Man that thing ran like a scared rabbit. Good luck in selling and thanks for the memories. JCD |

Greg, you might want to try listing this on the International 190SL Group Forum: www.190slgroup.com. You don't have to be a club member to list...

Thanks Bill,
I have just posted an advert for the car on that forum with a larger photo (still only a scanned photo but much clearer). I am surprised we are not getting more interest in the car. It is lower priced than some in poorer condition here in Australia. Obviously being right hand drive detracts in many markets although I suspected we could have got some bites from the UK. Possibly the fact that it is a coupe (with removable hard top only, no soft top) could also turn some potential buyers away. My father-in-law insisted in keeping it that way as the chassis number shows that it is a coupe not a roadster. He is that fussy for concours originality. The car is in true concours condition. Greg

We just had one of our UK members buy a car (LHD) from Pittsburgh... He'd have looked real hard at yours...
No chance of inheriting it?

Here's his 190SL I mentioned on my rare car thread. It's still for sale (he's been away on vacation and hasn't been advertising the car lately). I would love to buy it from him but can't justify that outlay for a car I would only use ocassionally (also the '70s and newer cars are more my thing). Believe me, it is among the best here and the 190SLs make up one of the most difficult to judge classes at every concours in Australia.

Price dropped
My father-in-law has told me that he has dropped the price to $48,500 AUD (currently approx. $30,000 USD). I believe this to be too low for the condition of the car and that he is not giving it sufficient advertising exposure (here in Oz). Let's face it, there are not a lot of buyers looking for a 190SL and I believe he needs to run plenty of advertisements and be prepared to wait. The fact that his has a detachable hardtop only may also detract from its desirability. For anyone looking for a concours condition 190SL coupe, this is a fine car at a good price.

Cid,
Sorry, but the car sold over 3 years ago. The buyer turned out to be a car dealer and I think he got it for not much over AU$40k. Soon after it appeared on the dealer's lot with an asking price of close to $70k. I don't know where it is now. Greg
