Should I buy a '91 560SEL?

Here's the short story.....Former Modified Mustang owner is all "grown-up" , expecting 1st child, bored of driving '02 Dodge Truck, etc.
Should I be looking at a '91 560 SEL if I cannot afford to buy one with perfect records? There are two within driving distance of me, between 7k adn 8k dollars. The first has 168k, the second 150k.
Here's my questions:
1) If no records are present after I have the local MB dealer run the VIN, what are the major things to look for? Timing chain? Rear hydro-pneumatic susp? What else?

2) Am I stupid for looking at a car like this? I know they are a fantastically put together automobile, but should my champagne tastes be molded to reflect my beer-budget?

All your thoughts are appreciated,
Naldo

A/C work is pricey: $800-1000.

Radiator: Upper neck can break, replace radiator. Few hundred.

Other things to look/listen for: worn cams or worn rocker arms that can cause clicking.

Valve seals-- smoke a start-up. You can bet on it after 100k miles.

Rubber bushings and motor mounts. You might notice dicey handling and can "feel" it idle, respectively.

Rear suspension: If a shop replaces the shocks, it can cost you upwards of $1000. The replacement of the cells themselves isn't as big a deal. A DIY project.

Can you do some work yourself? That helps the wallet a lot of course. Also, take the car to a reputable and knowledgeable MB shop and have the perform a pre-purchase inspection. Will be worth the $80 or so, then you'll have a good idea of where you're sitting financially.

You might want to re-post your msg. in the tech section for more coverage.

Good luck!
