Here is one that seems to look good in the pics. Not too sure how far away from you it is though. I would definitely try to take a look at it prior to buying though. Something about the description makes me think there are some mechanical issues. Not sure what it is - just a hunch.

Here is the one I have for sale. It is, by far, one of the best running/driving W123's I have ever come accross. If the paint on it looked like the one in the last link I sent it would be a $6k car.

thanks Jim
Thanks Jim for the info. I have never bought a car sight-un-seen before so I am a little hesistant on buying from ebay. I feel ALOT more comfortable knowing that you are selling your car and also are a part of this post. It adds validity to what you are saying in the ebay add (because of a small minority of ebayers, i don't trust the whole lot of em). If I bought a car in GA, I would want to fly out there and drive it back to Arizona. what are your thoughts on this. keeping in mind that I have never owned one of these cars (I have always had VW's and an early BMW2002) my history with buying my previous cars has been not to drive them until I have had a chance to look at the drive train and the suspension myself. I inevitably find something that would turn a 2,000 mile journey into an expensive epic. in any case, I am interested in your wagon. I will email you later today with more questions.
thanks a bunch.

I just came across this post and wanted to put in a good word for Jim (engatwork). You can see by my date registered that I've been around this board a long time. Jim moderates the diesel discussion forum here and works on these cars as a hobby. If he says this is a great 123, you can believe it. Finally, my recently purchased $500 240D went from New York to Florida without incident.

Thanks Rick.
I was pleased with the way the auction turned out and the guy that won it is flying down Sat (from NJ) to pick it up. He is getting a good car for a good price and I have invited him to join us here at mercedesshop. In talking with him he has a 300TD wagon that got totaled a few weeks ago that has the same color interior so he will have interior parts if/when he needs them.

Hello. I am the guy from Jersey who bought Jim's 300TD and I have to say that the ad was quite accurate. I picked-up the car in Atlanta on a Saturday morning, left the airport @ 9:30 AM and arrived home in Jersey a little after midnight. The car is everything that it was supposed to be. I have put about 2,500 miles on the car since pick-up and it is running beatifully!
As you can see, I have joined the group and have been going through old posts learning as I go. I particularly like the search engine to hone in on specfic problems/solutions. I will have questions in the next few weeks regarding switching over parts from my totaled TD to the new one. I may also have a body, doors, engine available in the next few months (no storage space but I will save what I can). Thanks for all of the good info and I look forward to having help in keeping this great car on the road for many years to come. Paul

Welcome aboard Paul. I was wondering when you would post.
Glad you are enjoying the car.

Paul,
Do you still have any parts from your old wagon. I'm specifically looking for a rear bumper and perhaps a few other items. I hope I'm not too late. Thanks, Alec.

I am still in "negotiations" with the insurance co. Yes, there is the possibility of a rear bumper being available, but I will need to wait a couple of weeks yet. Once I settle, I am sure there will still be parts available once I take the parts that I want.
I will let you know as soon as I can. Paul |

That's great news. There are a few other items I'd be interested in if available in addition to the rear bumper. I'm not in a huge hurry and would greatly appreciate you sending notice my way when you are ready. You can email me through this site or at ottodrover@yahoo.com.
How was the car totalled? Thanks.

Alec,
The short version is that someone made a left turn across my lane on a clear sunny day. I had no alternative but to slam on my breaks and hit him in the right rear passenger door. My hood, fender, bumper, radiator, etc. was bent up pretty good. My wife and I were fine - GREAT seat belts. The other car was very smashed and up on the sidewalk with two passengers going to the hospital. The cop gave them a summons for failure to yield. The subsequent search for a replacement car led me through E-bay and to this forum. The TD that I now have does not have some of the options that my first TD had (i.e. third seat, rear headrests, luggage cover/net. I will be taking these items and then some and whatever is left over I will offer to the people on the forum. Paul |
