No, the car suddenly *lost* 103kmi in a six week period. From 199k to 96k. Now, if it were 196k to 99k, I almost might understand that. But not the other way around. Besides, the odo froze at *exactly* the new lower number ever since (April 2000)! Bet that thing has 250k now...
 I don't like Signal Red- I had a 124 that color, wouldn't buy another one. Garnet Red is awesome but really rare for some reason. Silver would be OK, ditto Spruce Green, Wineberry/Blackberry, or Blue-Green/Teal. Never seen one in Taupe. Not crazy about white, black, or gray. And I swear about 80% of them are Pearl Black - including the one in GA with the EVO wheels & other goodies... grrr....

very different red. The one you like is almost maroon. Pretty color, very rare I would expect. I like signal red. I was going to buy a C36 in signal red, but the deal fell through. 500e in signal red would be nice or that red. Any 500E would be nice.

Signal Red is pretty, but fades badly in sunlight (requires lots of work waxing to keep it nice), and attracts more attention that anything short of Kobe Bryant's accuser. Bad attention - cops pick you out way too easy in something like this. More subdued colors are better for going fast. Now if you WANT to attract attention, Signal Red is the way to do it! Hatch and Sons has one right now. I'm sure it's only $35,000.

For some reason my w123 coupe in signal red with 17inch amgs doesnt really attract police...maybe they just know its slow.

They aren't that slow when you keep your foot very close to the firewall; they do get noisy at speed, in my experience.
I do think lots of Mercedes look like slow, sedately driven cars, to most people...even when being driven 10 or 20 mph over the speed limit. My blue wagon has pretty good stealth appeal too. Unlike a Corvette, which looks like it's speeding no matter whether the Vette is stopped or going 5-10 mph below the speed limit

September's DuPont Registry lists a few 500E's for sale....
www.bimmers-benz.com of New York have a 92 black 500E with a 5 year warranty for $20k. Hatch & Sons of Massachusetts are advertising one black 93 500E with 17k miles, a 94 E500 with 19k miles, and "two others in stock".

I emailed Hatch about theirs, they have 2 or 3, all in the $30k-$40k range. They had a sweet green one (rare color, I think) with 17kmi that sold for ~$45k. That's nuts. Mercedesshowroom.com has one now, looks nice, but they want $39k I think (way high, IMO). Oh, then there's that RENNTech 6.0 conversion which didn't meet eBay reserve at ~$43k (that one looks SWEET though.) Still waiting for a low-miles '94 to show up at my door for under $20k.
(And no I'm not holding my breath, I'd turn blue & die...) :p

For the US market did they make any 1995 E500s? ANy figures on how many?
If I am ever so fortunate to afford one, I would get a 1994 or 1995 one, late model, all the upgrades. but what is coola bout getting an early model one is that you can do all the upgrades which gives you something fun to do that wont devalue your benz. Would you guys and shanta agree with me?

Signal Red
I drove the red one at Hatch- WOW. It is perfect. They do really get some nice cars. I don't particulaly like Signal red for cars- but this one was nothing short of spectacular.
Is it too much? Well- what else would you get for the same money...NEW? Hatch is picky about the cars they buy and I suppose that is the premium you pay. They also do very good restoration work...so I would expect most to look nearly perfect as far as the interiors go.
