Fs: 1986 190d 2.5

Hello all,

I am finally selling my beloved 1986 190D 2.5. It's an automatic with 233,500 miles. Exterior color is red and it has palomino MB-Tex interior. I am asking $2000, but will consider any reasonable offer. The car is located in the Chicago area. Please contact me at: vladiev@yahoo.com if you are interested and I will be happy to provide more details, photos, and answer questions. In an effort to avoid common questions, I've provided more details below.

Thank you for your time.
-Vlad

FURTHER DETAILS:
I have owned the car since 1991 when it had 65,000 miles. I have done most of the work on it myself, so I don't have formal service records. I do however have all of the Mercedes repair manuals, that I would provide with the car. I’ve fixed the A/C twice, so that works just fine now, I’ve changed the head gasket, so it’s not leaking oil anymore, the transmission was replaced with a new one less that 75,000 miles ago, and I have been religious about changing the tranny oil and filter. The tie rods, steering damper, and passenger side ball joint were replaced in 1998-1999, and I recently had the spring mount on the passenger side replaced. Otherwise, the vacuum pump, oil pump, power steering all work with no leaks or issues, and I’m not aware of any compression issues (the car has always started very well) but I have not done an official compression test on it. I still get approximately 29 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, and I have new Michelin X-Ones on it. The car has always started for me in the winter, though I do use the block-heater when the outside air temperature drops below 0F. The only emerging problems that I am aware of are rust around the jack points and the muffler is starting to sound like it should be replaced. Last December, the car was rear-ended on a city street with a 35 mph speed limit (I was at a stoplight and the lady behind me didn't stop in time) I never had the time to give the car up to get it repaired, but I estimate that the repairs will cost in the neighborhood of $1500-$1750. The bumper is essentially pushed in a little on the passenger side. Otherwise, the trunk opens, the spare tire is easily accessible, and the plastic flap covering also lifts up just fine. I realize that the lack of service records and the accident detract greatly from the car, which is why I am asking less than I have seen others ask for the car. The entries for an 1986 190D on AutoTrader are asking $3000 or more and the only 1986 190D which has sold on eBay recently went for $4000. As I’ve indicated, the car is in very good shape. The only other mechanical issue I am aware of is that the hood latch sometimes gets stuck and won't let the hood close properly (just adjusting the latch by hand before slamming the hood solves the problem). I am selling the care because I now pretty much take the train to work every day and I know that the 1.5 mile commute to the train station is going to clog up a diesel (I don't drive it on the weekend anymore because I have a new 2003 Saab 9-5 Aero and a new-to-me 2001 SLK 320 (manual), which are a lot more fun!)
