Pampered 6 Speed C240 For Sale

I regret that I am in a situation in which I MUST sell my baby due to loss of job.

It is a 2001 Bourdeaux Red with Oyster interior, 6 speed C240. It has 28000 miles with at least 90% of these being road miles. It has had Mobil One oil and filter changes between the warranty oil changes. All service and maintenance records are with the car.

It has NEVER been stored outdoors. It has either been in my shop building or in my parking garage at work. In BOTH places it has had a custom fit car cover over it to prevent dust, or other conatmination.

The factory Goodyear tires were no good. It now has a set of Continentals with about 8,000 miles on them and were balanced on a GSP9700.

There is a full year and 20,000 miles of factory full maintenance warranty left on the car. This means that they do oil changes and everything.

This is a fire sale, but I would like to get $27,500 for the car. I saw them in Auto Trader in my area range from $26,000 to $30,000. I will listen to offers.

You can telephone me on my home office or home phone. Numbers are:

(903) 785-8742
(903) 782-9972 (This number will be disconnected soon.

Thanks,
Larry Bible
PS, I tried to post a picture but I'm having trouble. I can email you a picture privately if interested.LB

Hey,

I would advise you not to go back and forth from Synthetic to conventional. If you decide to keep the car, this will cause you problems with leaks down the road. I have heard that once you go full synthetic you cant go back. After going back to conventional in my van my main seal started leaking.

ski, take a look at the number of posts Larry has...

Larry, make sure your picture is saved as a jpg before you try and attach it (you can open it in PAINT and then do a save-as).

Larry,

I have always enjoyed your posts so I say the following with the kindest of intentions. I don't think that your price expectations are realistic. I could currently buy a 28K mile C320 locally for $27K. It's been my personal experience that Mercedes sticks are tougher to resell. I only offer this input from the standpoint that if you really need to sell it I believe that it's better to get ahead of the market than to lag behind it.
Best of luck.

Fred

No doubt it's harder to sell a manual than an automatic nowdays. Yuppies just can't seem to drive stick shifts.

This car was at the last Texas GTG. It is an extremely nice car. If I could afford it, I would buy this one in a heartbeat.

There are a couple pictures of it in this thread:

Another TX shindig come and gone!! cont'd.

Larry, we wish you well and hope your job situation turns around.

Throw us a few posts so we know you're OK.

I also think your price is a bit high. I'm selling my '02 C320 wagon on Ebay at:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2437441967&category=6334&rd=1

for less than your price. Yes it has more miles but it's one year newer, it's an automatic, it's a wagon, and it's a 320.

Why are you guys "attacking" his asking price? His post clearly says he'd like a certain amount but that he will listen to offers. Let the buyer and seller come up with a price that both are comfortable with.

Glen,

I'm not trying to attack the asking price. I hope he get's it. As I stated in my post my comments were made with the kindest of intentions. There are are plenty of ways of determining what the car is worth out there.

Larry,

It might be helpful to know what all the optional equipment that the car has on it. I remember that the early 6 spds that Mercedes was showcasing were pretty loaded up. This would certainly raise the value of the car.

Fred

Thanks for all the posts and kind words. I have been unable to post much lately so I am way behind.

Yes, as Mike said this car has never tasted ANYTHING but MOBIL ONE.

Good point about the accessories. From the original window sticker it has: C1: Power Front Seats w/memory, C2: Rain Sensor, Glass Sunroof, Electric Rear Window Sunshade C3: Ski Rack w/trunk passthru split fold donw rear seat.

Two other options are Bordeaux Red and Ash Leather.

Any offers are welcome on the car. My situation doesn't dictate that I get rid of it tomorrow, but I must sell it before too long.

Thanks for your responses,

FAIR

I think it is fairly priced.
see: www.smythe.com and
www.veracom.com

prices here in the SF Bay area are within Larry's range.
He may not be a dealer but it has low miles and nice extras.
A dealer would ask a bit more.
Larry, try posting on craigslist.com
and recycler.com (yes, no joke. I sold a 1998 Lexus 8K miles for $27K on this free site. Guy flew into town to buy it!!!))

Don't overlook the free car ad sites. They work!!!!!!
EXPOSURE a buyer is out there.

Good Luck!!!!!!!

Although I am in a position that I would take $22,500, establishing a price based on what is found by looking at an ad on ebay is very misleading.

You can not properly assess the condition of a vehicle through the internet. It is impossible. Just as it is impossible for anyone to CONFIRM that mine is in the condition that I claim without seeing and driving the car.

Have a great day,
Larry

That is my car on Ebay at $22,500 and it's like new and it didn't sell. It seems that NOBODY wants the current style C-Class Mercedes, at least not if it's a wagon. You just about can't even GIVE them away. And don't tell me that Ebay prices are rock bottom if you are selling a vehicle. I also have the car on Auto Trader for a month and it's the lowest priced '02 C320 in the ENTIRE country and I've yet to get a single response. If my experience with a C320 wagon is any indicator with a no sale at $22,500, I would hate to be in the shoes of someone with a one year older 240 with a stick no less hopeing to get $22,500! If you get ANY offers in the upper teens I would grab it!

GOOD LUCK

I would kill to have your car. I bought a new Saturn VUE back in 2002, and promised the parents I would drive it until I graduated. (My money for the car, but they foot the bill for tuition, so they ahve ultimate rule, which is okay, I can handle that) However, if I were in a position to do that I would kill for a 6 speed C240.
