86 300e/AMG Hammer project for sale

I am considering selling my AMG hammer.

The car is one of the original AMG Hammers, and it is a one owner car.

First, the bad news: the original owner blew up the original AMG 6.0 and it is no longer with the car.

he had a low mile 91 500sl engine and trans installed in the car a few years ago, and it was a terrible "butcher job".

I have removed the engine and trans, and was in the process of reinstalling it with a propr set of exhaustmanifolds, motor mounts, rad hoses etc,,,,,but am currently overwhelmed with way too many projects,,,,as I am in the middle of build two GT40 replicas (and starting a new business).

....also the chrome wheels are in need of refurbishing as the plating is flaking on them.

I would love to keep the car and don't have to sell it,,,,but I just don't have the time for it right now.

It is signal red with a creme interior and has the following AMG equipment still on it.

AMG ground effect with ducktail spoiler
17 inch amg chrome wheels
amg shocks,springs,560sl front brakes
amg modified rear subframe w/126 chassis centersection& gleason diff
AMG wood kit, speedo, floor mats

The car needs the following parts to be finished:
400e/500e exhaust manifolds
complete exhaust system
400/500e radiator & hoses
400e/500e alum motormount brackets
400/500e engine crossmember
fan and fan shroud
air ducting from headlights to the air filter housing

I'm not really sure what the car is worth since it is so rare and has around 74k miles on it.

Again, this is an unfinished project, and not running at the moment.
see pics here:

http://members19.clubphoto.com/alain658327/1257400/owner-44bd.phtml

$10k will buy it as it sits,,,,and not a penny less!
(don't bother contacting me if you aren't a serious buyer)

...again, I don't have to sell it,,,,,,,but probably can't get to the car for at least a year,,,,,,,,so here is your chance to finish and have yourself a Mercedes hot rod with AMG history!

if I don't sell it,,,,,,,It'll just sit in the back of my shop for a year or so until I can get back on it.

If you know what it is you are looking at, this is a great find and a bargain.

oh, the car has NO rust and shows nosigns of any crash damage.
The rear quarters have faded a little, from back when the AMG ducktail was installed.

car is still available.
I'm way too busy with the GT40 "stuff" to find time for my MBZ projects, so I'll let it go for $8,500.

hey,

is the car still availible? I would be somewhat interested within the next few months maybe if the engine is provided and hopefully can be put in without too much of a hassle.

Hope to hear from you and it still being with you,

Peter

Yes, it is still available, and I know will be worth much more once it is running again.

YES, I do have the 500sl engine for it.

The car needs the following parts to be finished:
400e/500e exhaust manifolds
complete exhaust system
400/500e radiator & hoses
400e/500e alum motormount brackets
400/500e engine crossmember
fan and fan shroud
air ducting from headlights to the air filter housing

These pieces, are not too hard to find and some of them can be bought used, like from potomac.
I would recommend a new radiator and engine mounts though, as used ones may not be in too good a shape.

I would love to be able to finish the car and sell it for much more,,,,,,
but am trying to start a new business at the moment so,
I am selling some toys for some cashflow.

This car should be a no brainer to put back together by any mbz tech.
A do - it - yourselfer may take longer depending on your skill level and available tools.

That car is amazing. Wish I could afford a toy to rebuild like that.

Would you consider selling the car without the engine/tranny? I already have a M117 6.0 with tranny as well as a M119 5.0 with tranny and computers and all that other jazz that comes with your car. You could probably sell your 500SL motor and tranny for $3-4K seperately. Email me a price for the shell if you would sell it that way. Thanks.

Alain,

Did this car get the 2.24, or 2.47 gleason diff? Are you sure it still has the gleason? I think the gleason was kind of a weakpoint on the car.

Just curious, all my books on the Red hammer say 2.47, but who knows.

it definately has the larger 126 chassis jug stuffed into the rear subframe, and has the AMG reinforcements & traction bars.
I know it is a limited slip from turning the wheels when the car was onthe lift but I never checked the ratio.
The car only has 70k on it.

My black 500e has had a gleason diff in it for about 5 years now and it has seen alot of track miles, with no problems yet......
although I have had to replace both axles on the car and seem to kill a serp belt tensioner about every 15-16 months.

OK, I now have 30 pictures posted on my clubphoto page of the hammer.

I have way too many projects, and too little time to get to all of them so it is time for the hammer to go.

YES! It is a real Hammer
signal red, and started life as an 86 loaded 300e.
72466 actual miles

look at the pics. They were all taken on 11-27-04
http://members19.clubphoto.com/alain658327/1257400/owner-44bd.phtml

first $8500 takes it home.

NO, I don't want to finish it for you....... If I had the time to do that I would finish it for myself.
(I'm in the middle of getting a new biz going while still working at my "day job", at the same time for the moment)

No Recaro setup huh? I thought that car would've had it. This is a mehcanic's special. The car and included parts are worth the price but just like you, somebody needs the time. Definitely not an average weekend warrior's job. I can almost read the differential ratio in one of the pics, is it 2.47?
