I would also include the 1993 300E cabriolet.
It is basically the same car, but was badged wrong. It has the same vin# (124.032) and same engine (3.2 liter M104). It has the updated interior (passenger airbag, armrest with flip up lid, center console storage box), but not the exterior updates.

Suginami,
I do not find that the 93 300E was 'badged wrong' just because it featured the same engine as a 94 E320. As you know, MB went toward a new classification structure for 1994, which saw the letter preceed the number across all classes of cars, including S and SL. The E, in particular also received a facelift, as you know. Further, this change was conceived and implemented for the 1994 model year worldwide. Hence your assertion of incorrect badging is not entirely watertight... :-) Regards farrukh 1994 E500 1995 E420 1995 E320T |

The 1993 3.2l M104 powered cars were sold as 320xx in the rest of the world. (i.e, 320E, 320CE) and there were also 220E's for a bit with the "then-new" 16V I-4 motor.

Right.
I understand that in 1994 Mercedes went to a "letter first" bading convention, thus E320. However, considering the engine change, they should have badged 1993's as 320E, as they did in the rest of the world. Since they badged 1993 300E's with the 2.8 liter engine as a "300E 2.8", they should have at minimum been constistant and labeled my car as "300E 3.2". Had they done so, I would have left the badge as is.

Fair enough.
But thats not what you assert in your little tagline... :-) Anyway, at least we agree that your car is a fine product, built according to MB heritage, unlike the vehicles manufactured today - I hope... |
