Shim size determined by "burls"?
Hi,
I will be replacing my rear spring shims soon, and I need to know what size to order. This list offers "burls"- are the shims made of wood? For the rear shims there are three thicknesses listed, but only one "burl" for each thickness? I would like to know if the shim thickness can be identified by the "burl" count before ordering and removing. My car is a daily driver and pulling the shims to measure before ordering seems like a problem. I don't know if they will still come out in one piece, or has a handful of kibbles. Please advise, I would like to keep my daily driver a daily driver, not a "jack stand queen". Cheers! snapped_bolt

for a w123, I recall being able to see them. Feeling them might be easier though.
They are not wood, but that is funny. "burls" = nubby pieces of extruding rubber. If you get really confused and are uncertain, you could look up the info about the springs which determines what shims to use. There are paint codes on the springs which are based on their final characteristics. These are easily visible if you clean the springs (they should be matched) and still have good paint on them

There is a typo in the 1st post. I was wondering what a burl is. It is small round nubs that sticks out of the rubber as markers, I guess it is a micro burl lol,

Im buying 2-burl shims for the rear, the mercedes part is nearly 3 times the price, ive found meyle and febis, which are much cheaper, but I was hoping a more reputable manufacturer would make them. Does anybody know who makes the Mercedes part? And would meyle or febi be okay or should I just buckle down and buy the genuine part? Also why is the genuine 2 burl for the front seven dollarish but the rears are like forty, availability?
