240D aluminum wheels...

Hi, spotted these at a junkyard in Bakersfield, Calif., yesterday. I wanted to grab them myself to resell but wasn't in a position to do that on this trip. So hopefully somebody else will get them as I'm told these wheels are kinda rare.

These are 14x5.5" OEM aluminum wheels that came on some w123 240d cars. they look just like the steelies found on most cars (and wear the same hubcaps) but are aluminum. There are at least two full sets (on three different cars) in this yard and all appear straight. They make a perfect set of spare wheels for mounting snow tires.

They are at this yard: http://www.pickapart.com/kern.shtm

Happy hunting!

They can appear straight and still be bent. I have a set of 4 in the back yard that look fine but vibrate like crazy on the car. They came standard on the 240D in later years. I think the cutover year was 1980.

Some official M-B literature suggests that these stamped aluminum wheels were also available in the 14x6. Not sure if that's true -- does anyone know for sure?

Saw these in Montreal recently - not sure if they're steel or aluminum but they're sweet for steel wheels!

If I had to guess, I'd say those are steelies, just from looking at your closeup pic. But they ARE nice for steelies. Looks like he's got a set of snow tires mounted on them.
