Well, with my loaded pallate for springtime, it looks as though I'm not ever going to get around to redoing my other 420SEL, so I've decided to sell it to get it out of the barn. Here are the details...
1986 model. Jade Green (Turquoise) with Palomino interior. 80,000 original New Mexico miles. This car belonged to a very good friend of mine's mother. She was the original owner of the car, bought it new in Santa Fe, NM. Her mother died and she got the car. She brought it to Cleveland and used it for a couple of years then the inevitable 420 glitch happened....Timing chain broke. Her and her husband brought the car into the dealership in Cleveland where it was diagnosed. Although I work for the dealership in Cincinnati, I am also very good friends with the foreman of the Cleveland shop. He informed me about the car as did the owners. I was offered the chance to buy it and immediately took them up on it. Brought the car back to my house, pulled the heads, inspected them (they are indeed still ok) but unfortunately the #4 cylinder wall in the block is scored beyond saving. I was originally planning to just get a rebuilt shortblock from Metric Motors but I have since taken on the restoration of a 230SL for a client and have a ton of other work to do on my own cars when the nice weather arrives. Soooo.....Regretfully, I must let her go to someone who has the time to put the car right. It's really a beautiful car, but I don't want to see it rot either. It's definitely worth a rebuilt engine, and not just a used one. There are some records for it from the dealership back in New Mexico and some from the dealership in Cleveland. It is fully loaded including a powered rear seat. It still retains the original Becker Grand Prix radio as well. Aside from the engine, it'll need a new set of Michelins when it's running. Other than that, a thorough cleanup and wax job and it'll be as good as new! I'm asking $3,950 and that's pretty firm. I don't want to give it away, because if worse comes to worse, it will wait until I can get an engine for it, but I figure for around $8,000 total(or less) you'll have a 420SEL that's worth at least $12,000-$14,000 when it's running. So, anyone interested can e-mail me. I can take some pics of it with a regular camera and send them US Postal. I don't have a digital camera as of yet, unfortunately. The car is located in Cleveland.
